Demolition Man producer Joel Silver once pitched a sequel concept where Meryl Streep would have played Sylvester Stallone’s daughter. Demolition Man was an action comedy that pitted Stallone’s relentless cop against Wesley Snipes’ insane villain, with the two enemies being frozen and thawed out in a utopian future. The movie was a big hit upon release in 1993, mixing great action setpieces with surprisingly witty satire. It has been confirmed that Denis Villeneuve will only be tackling the first half of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune for the upcoming film. With filming possibly taking place in early 2019, the filmmakers for Dune are no doubt attempting to finalize the script so that filming can indeed take place within this time frame. Things seem to be swiftly moving along at Legendary Pictures as more updates keep pouring out for Dune....

The estimated box office numbers for Blade Runner 2049’s opening weekend have been lowered after the film had a disappointing Friday. The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with Denis Villeneuve providing audiences with a faithful, expansive continuation. While it’s a critical hit, it’s still unclear if it will be a financial one. The film cost a whopping $185 million to make, meaning that to break even the film needs to gross over $300 million worldwide (standard Hollywood math says marketing and associated costs essentially doubles the budget)....
Guy Pearce is in talks to replace Michael Sheen in Bloodshot. Sony and Cross Creek Pictures are producing the movie as are Fast and the Furious’ Neal Moritz and Dinesh Shamdasani. Multiple directors were eyed for the project before they settled on Dave Wilson, who is the partner of Deadpool director Tim Miller at Blur Studio. This will be his feature film directorial debut. He previously worked as a creative supervisor for Blur Studio on Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron....

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was no ordinary TV show. Twenty years later, Joss Whedon’s landmark series remains impossible to classify. After all this time, BtVS continues to endure as one of the most groundbreaking and influential shows ever created. While the series is known for its excellent cast, witty dialogue and clever use of metaphor, it is also remembered for Joss Whedon’s near unendurable cruelty. On any show helmed by Whedon, it was a pretty safe bet that if two characters were happy and in love, one of them was going to either die or turn evil....
2015 was quite the year for Marvel Studios. Competition between carriers will drive iPhone 13 sales with aggressive deals, say industry commentators, but iPhone subsidies will end at some point. Carriers have played a significant role in driving demand for iPhones, thanks to fighting each other for market share … The WSJ reports. Many feel that the cost of these incentives is too high to be sustainable, and that there will come a time when carriers will cut back....
iPhone assembler Foxconn says it sees signs of component shortages easing, with major improvements expected during the rest of the current quarter. This is in contrast with Apple chipmaker TSMC, which expects supply constraints to continue for at least the rest of the year … Bloomberg reports. Although Apple designs its own A-series and M-series chips, contracting out the fabrication to TSMC, the company still relies on industry-standard chips for things like display drivers and some power management functions....
Warner Bros. has confirmed a Flashpoint movie during their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2017. The studio officially launched their DC Extended Universe last year with Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - a follow-up to Snyder’s Man of Steel - and they followed up that movie with David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. Now, they’re gearing up to unite the world’s finest heroes - Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) - against Steppenwolf and his Parademon army in Snyder’s Justice League this fall....
In the long history of mankind, a few great duos, pairings and team-ups have stood the test of time. Peanut butter and jelly. Cheese and crackers. Blood and guts. Longtime Disney CEO Bob Iger recently returned to Disney after two years of retirement, and he’s already saying nope about a potential takeover by Apple. Disney abruptly fired former CEO Bob Chapek this month and replaced the handpicked Bob Iger replacement with Bob Iger. Disney has tasked the 71-year-old with leading the company for two years during the search for a new CEO. Iger previously lead Disney for two decades....
Thomas Mann has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake as Jim Dear, aka. one of Lady’s two human owners. The Kong: Skull Island and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl actor’s onscreen wife - who is known as simply Darling - will be played by Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Angie Tribeca) in the film. The Mouse House’s original 1955 animated classic Lady and the Tramp (an adaptation of the Ward Greene story Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog) is told from the perspective of the eponymous Lady - an American Cocker Spaniel - and her fellow dogs....
