Prepare for another R-rated video game adaptation as Lionsgate’s Borderlands movie finally seems to be moving forward. Comic book movies have been leading the way since X-Men in 2000, but as the recent success of Brad Peyton’s Rampage shows, the video-game-to-movie curse may finally be broken. Alongside the likes of Duke Nukem, Sonic, and Call of Duty, Borderlands is ready to cash in on our obsession with video games. Borderlands has been in the planning stages since 2015, and now, The Hashtag Show reveals some interesting titbits....

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most popular television series of all time. It is impossible to watch any supernatural show nowadays without feeling the influence of Joss Whedon’s mega-hit. Even a revival series is potentially in the works. The show helped make vampires cool and scary (at least until the Twilight craze kicked in). The upcoming big screen adaptation of Cats has received a perfectly terrifying upgrade courtesy of the trailer music from Jordan Peele’s Us. Released in March, Us served as Jordan Peele’s second directorial effort following his smash hit and Oscar-recognized debut, Get Out. Though the film didn’t quite have the cultural resonance, Us was still a critical and commercial success in its own right, landing a record-breaking opening at the box office and becoming one of the best horror films of 2019....

The Superman villain nobody wanted to see again is heading to DC Comics. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’s Nuclear Man will make his comic debut in August during Brian Michael Bendis’ run on the Man of Steel. Nuclear Man’s first comic appearance will occur more than 30 years after his cinematic debut. That’s with good reason as Nuclear Man is one of the worst Superman villains of all time. An original character created specifically for Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Nuclear Man played a huge role in nearly tanking the Superman movie franchise forever....

Daredevil season 3 is set roughly a year before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, which may be a big clue as to how Marvel Netflix will avoid Thanos altogether. You shouldn’t expect this season to deal with the repercussions of the Mad Titan’s snap, but also don’t hold your breath on it being addressed at all. When Daredevil launched in 2015, the Marvel Netflix shows took place pretty much in real time; season 1 was set in 2015....

Guardians of the Galaxy franchise star Dave Bautista is getting his own action comedy vehicle. Following a career in both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, Bautista’s star has risen considerably in the past few years, thanks to a breakthrough performance as the intergalactic outlaw Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Hollywood immediately took notice of the strongman’s big screen presence, and he soon landed a key supporting role opposite Daniel Craig as the henchman Hinx in 2015 James Bond film Spectre....

Deadpool 2 co-writer Rhett Reese reveals that he wants X-Force to be a raunchier version of the X-Men. Having written the first two Deadpool movies alongside Paul Wernick (with the assist from Ryan Reynolds on the sequel), delivering both times, the screenwriter has an idea or two for how to effectively take advantage of the Merc with a Mouth’s no-holds-barred humor and fourth wall-breaking activities. And although Wade is soon joining a band of other mutants for a collective mission, Reese still has an idea of what he wants to see in the upcoming spinoff....

Disney’s distribution chief has commented on Solo: A Star Wars Story’s box office opening coming in well below where early tracking indicated it would. The second Star Wars anthology film after Rogue One, Solo was controversial from the get-go because it recasts the Han Solo role made iconic by Harrison Ford, among other things. The film’s cause wasn’t helped when original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired with a few week’s left in production and replaced by Ron Howard, but it managed to overcome that and earn decent reviews from critics on the whole; in fact, some are already arguing that Solo deserved better reviews than it got and is under-appreciated....

Filming treks on during the production Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, and a new released set photo by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson shows the filmmakers working in a familiar setting from Derrickson’s film. The long and extended shoots for Infinity War, which is shooting back to back with the untitled Avengers 4, have had to juggle the incorporation of dozens of characters and settings from the MCU. The production recently began filming scenes featuring Doctor Strange, as Benedict Cumberbatch reported to the set for filming last week....

Batman Bat-Tech Edition is a free app aimed at kids aged 6-12. The app lets kids join Batman’s crime-fighting team, the Knightwatch, and experience the world of Batman, learning how to use his Bat-Tech to fight crime and help defend Gotham City from his evil adversaries...

Marvel’s Black Panther has now broken into the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all-time at the worldwide box office. What director Ryan Coogler and screenwriter Joe Robert Cole have accomplished with this film is nothing short of astonishing. Starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther and Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Black Panther delivered a story that continues to resonate with audiences long after its release - and all of that hype doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon....

Hancock (2008) Most superhero movies have their titular characters performing some heroics, and painting the heroes in such a way that audiences can aspire to be them. Then, there’s Hancock. Directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) and starring Will Smith as the eponymous character, Hancock turned the superhero genre on its head and showed a man - one endowed with superhuman abilities that mimic DC’s Superman - hellbent on NOT being a superhero....

A new short movie taking place in the world of Blade Runner reveals more about the backstory of Jared Leto’s character in Blade Runner 2049. Leto (Suicide Squad) will portray Niander Wallace, a blind man whose Wallace Corp. has acquired the means to create its own replicants. Wallace looked in trailers to be just as powerful and impactful on 2049-era Los Angeles as the Tyrell Corp. was in 2019 in the original Blade Runner, raising questions of how his character rose to prominence....

Originally released theatrically in 1984, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is a celebrated science-fiction adventure comedy film originally directed by Walter Richter and written by Earl Mac Rauch. Centering around the chief exploits of the eponymous protagonist - who can be succinctly described as being a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock n’ roll musician - lead actor Peter Weller originated the role and movie property as a wildly original genre production that saw the central hero saving the world from inter-dimensional aliens called Red Lectroids from Planet 10....

Hank Voight, over the course of seven seasons, has become everyone’s favorite boss on Chicago P.D. He somehow manages to play good cop and bad cop at the same time, and does both extremely well. Audiences love him, and hate him, and find him incredibly intimidating, but that’s what it takes to be the Squad Commander of the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit. Hank’s tough guy mentality sometimes hinders his conflict resolution skills....

Even though the character is set to make her DC Extended Universe debut in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a lot of hype is building for the upcoming Wonder Woman solo film. Starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, the movie is shaping up to be a different sort of superhero tale than Batman v Superman. One source for information on the movie has been Chris Pine, who is playing Wonder Woman’s love interest (possibly multiple love interests) Steve Trevor, and has commented on the movie in several interviews as of late....

Charlie Cox of Netflix’s Daredevil would like to see a team up with Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Netflix released the first season of the hit Marvel TV show in 2015. Since that time, fans have seen how the stories of the MCU can (or, really, can’t) intertwine from the big to the small screen. The show has maintained a steady following over the years, with season 3 set for a 2018 release....

Dark Phoenix was originally going to be a two-part film, but Fox changed its mind. Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut gave the studio a second chance at adapting Chris Claremont’s iconic The Dark Phoenix comic book narrative following the critically-panned X-Men: The Last Stand. Sadly, fans are less than impressed with the contemporary re-telling evidenced by the bad reviews and disappointing box office performance. It’s no secret that Dark Phoenix had a tumultuous production....
