Following the release of Quentin Tarantino’s darkly comic spaghetti western Django Unchained, the director co-wrote a comic book sequel series pairing up his freed slave bounty hunter character with Diego de la Vega, otherwise known as the swordfighting vigilante Zorro. It was recently reported that Tarantino is working on a film adaptation of the comic. The Sony emails that were leaked by North Korean hackers revealed that then-Sony boss Amy Pascal had discussed a Django/Zorro movie adaptation with Tarantino, but now, it’s official....

Doctor Strange is about to unleash a whole new era for Marvel. Not only will the good doctor be the second film in Phase 3 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but he’ll also be the first officially mystical superhero logging serious time in the franchise. And as the MCU expands to include a broader range of their character stable, fans are learning that the film will keep some aspects which made the comic book successful, but not necessarily all of them....

Box is out today with a nice update for desktop users. The new Box Drive Mac app features full Apple Silicon support, is compatible with macOS Monterey, offers a more seamless and secure experience, increased app support, and more. According to Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Steven Spielberg came up with the idea for the Bumblebee movie to have a female human lead. Spielberg has been an executive producer on all five live-action Transformers films released to date. However, he has left most of the creative decisions on the franchise in director Michael Bay’s hands since the release of the first Transformers in 2007. Many people further credit Spielberg for being a big reason why the original movie remains the best-received entry in the series under Bay’s watch....

[Update: Captain America: Civil War trailer analyzed.] If you’ve been reading your favorite geek movie websites throughout this week you’ve probably noticed a lot of Captain America: Civil War coverage in the last few days. Outlets who had the opportunity to visit the set of Marvel’s first Phase 3 film last summer and interview the cast and crew are finally allowed share details what they saw and talked about. Production on Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play remake wrapped earlier this month, and the studio has begun its marketing campaign with a site promoting “Buddi”, the seemingly innocent doll that’ll take a sinister turn. A remake of director Tom Holland’s classic slasher film Child’s Play was announced back in July, and while it doesn’t involve franchise creator Don Mancini, writer David Kirschner, or Chucky’s voice actor Brad Dourif, it will follow the same basic plot as the original film....

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger has confirmed two roles with ties to the original comics. The series has changed a lot, from the story’s setting to a lot of what motivates the characters, but these new characters indicate the series will be keeping at least a few things that might ring some bells for the original comic’s fans. The original Cloak and Dagger characters debuted in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #64 in 1982....

Netflix has officially cancelled Daredevil after three seasons. Marvel and Netflix struck a deal years ago to bring original live-action TV shows to the streaming service. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were the initial deal that was scheduled to lead to The Defenders. Marvel and Netflix started the partnership with Daredevil and cast Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock. The first season arrived in 2015 and instantly set the tone for this corner of the MCU and was looked at as a major hit....

Jennifer Lawrence says working on X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been her best acting experience so far in the long-running franchise. The upcoming fourth installment in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men prequel series (and 13th installment in the studio’s overall X-Men franchise) continues the story left off with Bryan Singer’s 2016 film, X-Men: Apocalypse, and brings Chris Claremont’s iconic 1980 comic book story arc, The Dark Phoenix Saga, to life on the big screen… again....

David Walden, one of a small team of computer scientists who developed a system fundamental to the development of the internet, has died … Walden was one of a team of 10 people tasked with solving one of the biggest challenges to creating “a network of networks” – the fact that different machines ran different operating systems, and thus couldn’t talk to each other directly. His work was for Arpanet (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) for the US Department of Defense....

Disney CEO Bob Iger Disney says the studio will “look carefully” at Fox’s many non-Marvel franchises. Disney’s merger with 21st Century Fox is now official, with the historic $52.4 billion deal giving The Walt Disney Company ownership of various properties and franchises. Fox, meanwhile, will remain in control of the Fox Broadcasting network, the Fox News, and Fox Business cable channels, as well as the Fox Sports networks. The biggest question for many regarding the merger was how it would effect Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe....

Captain Marvel looks set to bring Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series closer to the movies than ever before. When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. launched back in 2013, it was essentially Marvel’s flagship tie-in TV show, with a massive number of links to movies like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Connections between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Marvel movies have grown a little more distant in recent years, though, much to the dissatisfaction of viewers and actors alike....

Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight could find himself up against Two-Face in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but who should portray the iconic DC villain? The Batman is scheduled for release in 2021, but so far Pattinson is the only name confirmed. However, it’s believed that it’ll feature a number of characters from Batman’s rogues gallery, with Harvey Dent among those likely to appear. In the comics, Harvey Dent starts off as Gotham’s District Attorney, a seemingly good, genuine man who wants to help the city and works alongside Batman and Commissioner Gordon....

A multiplayer gameplay reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming on August 1, 2019. The silence surrounding Modern Warfare has been very odd considering the game is coming out in just a few months before the end of 2019, and this will be the first time fans will have the chance to see the core multiplayer playlist in action. Activision and Infinity Ward recently revealed the first gameplay of a new game mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare called Gunfight, which is perfectly suited for players on a tight schedule; however, it’s completely separate from the main multiplayer playlist....

Media monolith Comcast still isn’t ready to let Disney have Fox, making an offer for the company that easily tops the House of Mouse. Fox has been the subject of an ongoing bidding war between the two companies since even before the December announcement that Disney and Fox had reached a deal for the former to acquire a large portion of the latter’s assets. While Fox would retain things like the Fox broadcast network, Fox Sports, and Fox News - with plans to spin those off into a new smaller company called simply New Fox - Disney would absorb Fox’s movie and TV studios, as well as cable networks like FX, and Fox’s stake in streaming service Hulu....

The cult 1980s sci-fi TV show V is set to become a movie franchise, as Desilu Studios have announced plans to remake the story as a ’epic tale’ for theaters in a brand new trilogy of films. In a surprise statement, the studio has teamed up with the creator of the original show Kenneth Johnson to pull a big budget movie together and reboot the brand. The show was remade recently by ABC, but this is intended to be a whole new take on the premise....

The overall story of Nightwing #47 sees Dick trying to take down new villain Wyrm. Nightwing is semi-successful; Wyrm’s plan is thwarted, but the baddie escapes justice. However, the more intriguing element of Nightwing #47 is what it confirms about Dick Grayson’s place in the DCU....

It doesn’t take a long memory to recall when Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was arguably the most controversial topic concerning superhero casting this side of Michael B. Jordan landing the Johnny Storm role in Fantastic Four. The fervor surrounding “Batfleck” was loud and long, which of course makes it a bit amusing that Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader went on to be one of the only unanimously praised aspects of the film....

It’s three days until Black Panther hits theaters and fans will be getting a unique experience thanks to a bigger budget than any recent MCU film. Marvel and Disney’s recent forays into creating more diverse properties have seen even bigger interest in the studio’s films. While there have been some controversies, studio head Kevin Feige seems committed to making the chances audiences have asked to see. The world of Wakanda is ripe for rich storytelling and while Marvel didn’t initially have the rights, they’re clearly focused on making up for lost time....
