When 2015’s comic-book-derived action spy film Kingsman: The Secret Service became a surprise hit, it wasn’t only the standout action and cheeky tone that did it. In part because the film’s plot had the spy agency using a Saville Row tailor shop as a front, the first film sported some of the most stylish men’s clothing in recent memory. A sequel to Kingsman, titled Kingsman: The Golden Circle, is set to arrive next June and recently began production....

A new toy from Justice League offers our best look yet at how big bad Steppenwolf will appear in the film. With Justice League coming up fast, we’re likely going to learn a lot more about the film at this week’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Sony’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con will largely focus on the studio’s two upcoming Spider-Man-centric films, Venom and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Both films are potentially ground-breaking for Sony. Venom is intended to be the start of a Spider-villains universe, with the studio hoping to build a super-villain rival for the MCU that’s centered on antiheroes and secondary characters. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, meanwhile, is Sony’s first attempt to create a big-screen Spider-Man movie....

New showrunner Chris Chibnall decided to avoid bringing back any previous monsters from either the classic or rebooted series in favor of antagonists that represent flaws in the human condition....

Disney is reportedly planning to counter Comcast’s latest all-cash bid, to prevent them from swooping in and making a deal with Fox. Despite major moves from Comcast in recent weeks, there’s still a deal in place for Disney to acquire movie studio 20th Century Fox and other assets for $52.4 billion, a total comprised entirely of stock. If Disney can fend off Comcast and close the deal with Fox, it would be a colossal shift of intellectual property on the big screen, particularly for Marvel-based properties....

Marwan Kenzari is now in talks to play the villainous Jafar in Disney and director Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action musical movie, Aladdin. While the story of Aladdin originated as one of the many folk tales in the centuries-old story collection One Thousand and One Nights, Ritchie’s film is based on the Mouse House’s Oscar-winning 1992 animated movie adaptation of the tale. That makes Ritchie’s movie one of the many, many live-action retellings of older Disney animated films that are currently in development, along with such projects as Niki Caro’s Mulan and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King....

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch creator Charlie Brooker says that critics who aren’t keen on the film’s interactive focus can “f-ck off” in a recent interview. Brooker’s cheeky defense of Black Mirror’s interactive spin-off film came while answering questions about the creation and critical reception of Bandersnatch alongside co-showrunner Annabel Jones. Bandersnatch released on Netflix at the close of 2018, and the choose-your-own-adventure film has grown into nothing short of a cultural phenomenon since then....

The Weinstein Company already fired Harvey, who was co-founder and co-chairman, amid the allegations from dozens of women who have come forward sharing their experiences with the film mogul’s improper advances....
