Netflix has already seen two seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil come and go since launching the grittier, street-level side of the MCU in 2015. In that time the corner of the live-action comic book universe has grown by leaps and bounds, adding a nearly complete Defenders roster to the streaming service’s content catalogue that includes Jessica Jones and, more recently, Luke Cage. But while the titles have increased and their locations ventured from Hell’s Kitchen to Harlem, the Man Without Fear has played host to some of the most interesting characters from the funny book pages, like Elektra and the Punisher – both of whom struck a morally ambiguous chord with viewers and with the title character’s own violent crusade against the evil and the corrupt....

Warner Bros. and New Line are moving forward with an original China-set romantic comedy titled Singles Day. The news arrives hot on the heels of WB and director Jon M. Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians movie adaptation becoming a box office success this past week, after earning an overall glowing reception from critics. While Netflix has been doing its part to revive the rom-com - a genre that’s been largely sidelined in the modern era of franchise tentpoles and big-budget studio offerings - with recent Original releases like Set It Up, Crazy Rich Asians is the first such film to hit it big commercially since Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck topped the box office over three years ago....

It is the news that everyone has been waiting for as Chris Evans confirms he really is done with playing Captain America after the Russo Brothers’ Untitled Avengers 4. Alongside big names like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, Evans helped launch Phase 1 of the MCU playing the First Avenger, Steve Rogers. In addition to starring in two proper solo movies, Evans also led the charge in Captain America: Civil War, the first two Avengers movies, and makes a major return to form in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War....

After entering early access preview five months ago, ChromeOS Flex is now stable (version 103) and ready for widespread use. This follows Google’s decision to relaunch CloudReady, which it acquired in December of 2020, as ChromeOS Flex in February. This “free-to-download operating system” turns older Mac and Windows computers that are no longer receiving updates into Chromebooks. Devices running ChromeOS Flex share the same code base, tab/application-level sandboxing, read-only OS, background system updates, release cadence, and seconds-long boot time....

San Diego Comic-Con 2018 starts soon, so we break down all the movie and TV show trailers that are expected to be released over the weekend. Comic-Con International in San Diego is one of the biggest entertainment events of the year. Not only do fans get a chance to meet the creators of their favorite geek-geared media, but movie studios and TV networks bring some of their biggest upcoming projects to show off on the Hall H stage - and generate buzz among the fans and press in attendance....

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began with the mystery of Coulson’s resurrection, and it’s only fitting that its 100th episode brings his death. The series kicked off in 2013, and back then it was essentially the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tie-in TV show. It starred Clark Gregg, reprising the role of Agent Phil Coulson - in spite of the fact his character had actually been killed in 2012’s The Avengers. The latest episode of DC’s Titans, “Koriand’r,” marks the point at which the series has finally begun to answer questions rather than leave them hanging for as long as possible. Two mysteries have stood at the center of Titans’ plot so far; who is Raven’s father, and what is Starfire’s mission? Unfortunately the effectiveness of these two plots has been damaged somewhat by the fact most Titans viewers are familiar with the comics, and that the most important clues were offered in the first four episodes anyway....

An FCC commissioner has called on both Apple and Google to delete TikTok from their respective app stores, giving the companies until July 8 to respond. It is not clear what measures the Federal Communications Commission might take if the companies do not comply. The lengthy four-page letter says that TikTok is not a video-sharing app, but a “sophisticated surveillance tool” for the Chinese government … Background Back in 2020, the previous president announced that TikTok would be banned in the US unless it were sold to an American company....

Disney’s XD channel, their platform for releasing animated content aimed at a pre and early teenage audience, has released their first Marvel’s Ant-Man short. The episode is another example of the blossoming partnership between Marvel and Disney after the Mouse House’s purchase of the Marvel Entertainment Company in 2009. As a result of that deal, Marvel fans have seen an increase in their favorite superheroes in terms of merchandise, theme park presence and crucially, content aimed at a younger audience....

Let’s hope you weren’t tiring of superheroes on television, because there is no end in sight for the trend. There’s a superhero show of every flavor for every audience, from the new NBC comedy Powerless to the upcoming cerebral drama on FX, Legion. ABC has Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fox has Gotham and, of course, The CW has their massive DC Comics slate – better known to most as the Arrowverse....

Marvel’s Black Panther continues to make box office history by scoring the biggest second weekend in the storied history of the MCU. Ryan Coogler’s entry in the franchise has become an undisputed cultural phenomenon - even by Marvel’s lofty standards. Released to widespread praise from critics and fans, Black Panther stormed out of the gates with a whopping $242 million opening during the 4-day Presidents Day weekend. It’s just the fifth film in history to post those kinds of numbers, and with word-of-mouth remaining very strong, it was all but guaranteed to have massive legs commercially....

In real life, it’s inappropriate to vocalize every thought that pops into your head. However, in movies and TV, unfiltered characters are often fan favorites. Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Anya is a treasured gem. Whether she’s bored with a conversation, doesn’t like somebody, or is just straight-up horny, she’ll express these thoughts to anyone within earshot. Not only can the viewer depend on Anya for comic relief, but they get to live vicariously through the effortless way in which she expresses herself....

Gerard Butler is comparing the tone of his forthcoming sequel Angel Has Fallen to Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine adventure Logan. The first two entries in Butler’s action franchise has provided audiences with some gleeful R-rated thrills. Olympus Has Fallen was a cartoonish action flick best described as Die Hard in the White House. The story and characters were paper thin, but Butler’s charisma and the over the top action scenes made it a surprise hit....

The Killing Joke is a fan-favorite Batman story, providing both an origin story for the Joker and telling the tale of how he tries to drive Commissioner Gordon crazy by giving him “one bad day.” The story has influenced a number of Batman comics and has even had tie-ins featuring other heroes, and is now being developed into a feature-length animated film that rumor has it could see Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy return to voice the Joker and Batman, respectively....

Now that 2015 is coming to a close, it’s good to look forward at the next year’s slate of new movies. One of the most anticipated movies of 2016 is certainly Captain America: Civil War. The third movie in the Captain America film series will pit superhero against superhero over a newly-established registration act, as the governments of the world look to oversee and better regulate the actions of superheroes and super-powered individuals alike....

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is mostly geared toward businesses rather than individuals, encouraging them to ensure they carry out risk assessments and follow best practices to protect their IT systems. (There appear to be one or two companies who could use a little work there…) But it’s also a worthwhile reminder to individuals to check their own cybersecurity, and for us to offer some advice to less-techie friends and family members....

Today is officially Data Privacy Day, designed to highlight steps we can all take to ensure that we are protecting our identity, our personal data, and our money. The Federal Trade Commission this week revealed that fraud initiated on social media alone cost consumers around $770M last year – and identity theft can create problems that affect you for years. This highlights the need to be extremely careful when adding friends, and in particular, being suspicious of private messages asking for money....

We’ll know in just over a week whether the DC Extended Universe is going to be a real contender in a superhero movie market thus far dominated by Marvel franchises, but on the (broadcast) television side it’s already more-or-less established that DC characters are ruling the roost. Fox’s Gotham continues to draw solid ratings (despite mixed reviews and an increasingly irritated fanbase) while The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow are proving to be a solid draw for The CW - and CBS’ bright, buoyant take on Supergirl is one of the past TV season’s success stories....

Apple has made an important update on the Apple Developer Program. Starting today, the company lets apps that use iCloud to be transferred to another developer. Here’s how it works. According to Apple, you already could transfer an app when you’ve sold it to another developer or you would want to move it to another App Store Connect account or organization. You can also transfer the ownership of an app to another developer without removing it from the App Store....

Disney and Fox’s deal may be finalized by next summer. The Hollywood landscape will look very different in the near future. With the streaming race heating up and studios betting more and more on franchises or cinematic universes, the movie industry is as competitive as ever. Disney’s the cream of the crop when it comes to adapting to this new model, as the majority of their slate includes either MCU, Star Wars, Pixar, live-action remakes, or animated movies....
