The Marvel Cinematic Universe is only a few weeks away from adding Doctor Strange to its long list of properties, and as a result, will bring about real magic. Unlike Thor and the Asgardians whose powers come from science humans do not yet understand, Strange’s powers come from training under the tutelage of The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and Wong (Benedict Wong). Once he masters the mystic arts and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, he will be equipped to battle not only Earthly and other worldly threats, but also ones from other dimensions or realities that hardly anyone else can see.
With the film entering the final stretch before it is released (in as soon as two weeks in some parts of the world), the final marketing push has already started. That means a brand new international trailer for Doctor Strange has arrived, plus Benedict Cumberbatch being featured on the cover of yet another magazine.
Comic Book published the new international trailer for Doctor Strange and continues to show off the world bending and unique visuals that have been promised. There is not much in terms of new footage here, though a fresh action sequence with Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) is included, along with a shot of Strange falling through multiple realities. Meanwhile, EW has released the cover for its upcoming issue, which has Strange and the glowing Eye of Agomotto featured.
Marvel has so far done a fairly good job at not showing anything that appears to be too spoilery throughout the marketing campaign of the film. They have previously shown climactic battles and more in trailers and TV spots, but have appeared to not fall into that trap with Doctor Strange. Strange is not the most well-known character Marvel has so this film has the potential to surprise a lot of people who are not familiar with his comic stories.
There are sure to be a few more new scenes and images that come out as a result of Marvel and Disney pushing the film into the spotlight, but there will hopefully not be anything too revealing that arrives next. Reactions to a 15-minute IMAX preview of the film have started to generate even more buzz for Doctor Strange, so once people can see the full movie, word of mouth should further hype it up (assuming the film is good, of course). Either way, Marvel isn’t relying on this to be another billion dollar franchise out the gate, but it does have the potential to dominate the box office for a few weeks - and get audiences excited for Strange to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and beyond.
