The Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps expanding with its third “phase” - something that began earlier this year with the release of Captain America: Civil War. Phase 3 will delve deeper into the cosmic side of the MCU too, by introducing characters like Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and more space misfits in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The next big release on the list is Doctor Strange, the first standalone movie featuring neurosurgeon-turned-Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch). With the release date fast approaching, Marvel Studios is upping their marketing game with TV spots, hi-res images, and of course, toys.
Hot Toys is synonym of quality and highly detailed figures that appeal to the most demanding fans. Their attention to details is beyond compare, and we didn’t expect any less from their Doctor Strange figures. Although one of these figures had been previously revealed, the company has now shared all the details about this mystical figure.
This 1/6th scale collectible figure of Doctor Strange comes with a magnetically attachable, highly detailed Cloak of Levitation, interchangeable hands so you can have Strange either casting spells or holding the Book of the Vishanti. Plus, various mystical artifacts that – of course! – include the Eye of Agamotto, and a display stand with backdrop featuring the Seal of the Vishanti, just like in the Sanctum Sanctorum’s skylight.
As usual, Hot Toys put extreme attention to every detail, not only in Strange’s facial expression, but in the costume. It’s worth noting how highly detailed the Cloak is, inside and out, as well as the rest of his costume, but most of all, the Eye of Agamotto (which, in MCU continuity, could be holding the Time Gem).
Doctor Strange will introduce the audience to neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, who after a horrific accident which shatters his hands and leaves him unable to keep performing surgery, sets out on a journey looking for alternative ways to heal. He finds the Ancient One, a powerful Sorcerer who will help him heal in more levels than any of us could imagine. This movie, described by those involved as “Marvel’s Fantasia”, will take us to unexplored dimensions and will bring magic as it is to the MCU.
Like with every superhero movie, fans can’t help but worry about how these characters will be adapted to the big screen – in this case, one of the main concerns was about Strange’s costume, as it could look a bit cartoonish when making the jump from the pages to screen. Marvel surprised us all with a Doctor Strange costume that doesn’t look comic-bookish but at the same time kept the details from the comics. Thanks to Hot Toys, we can have a much closer look at all these details in Strange’s costume ahead of the release of the movie.
