Marvel has already begun the marketing push for its first Phase 3 offering, Captain America: Civil War, but the studio is also currently shooting the second film to be released next year, Doctor Strange. In addition to introducing the Sorcerer Supreme to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange will also establish the mystical side of the comics’ lore. Production on Doctor Strange began in Nepal last month, offering fans their first glimpses of Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.

Production on Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange has since moved to London’s Pinewood Studios - a favorite of Marvel - and a new set photo teases what may be Stephen Strange’s lair. Now, more tweets from the set don’t tease any locations or costumes, but do confirm a behind the scenes role on Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Robert Cargill, who worked with Derrickson on Sinister, confirmed on Twitter that he worked on the script for Doctor Strange for the majority of the year. Additionally, Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito tweeted a photo with the screenwriter from the set of the film, confirming Cargill to be a co-writer on Doctor Strange.

So yeah. It’s finally out in the wild. I’ve been working on this for the better part of the last year. pic.twitter.com/BTZDaItsbt— C. Robert Cargill (@Massawyrm) December 14, 2015

In 2010, Marvel originally tapped Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan the Barbarian (2011)) to pen the script for Doctor Strange, then last year brought in Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour, Prometheus) to revise the draft. Now it seems Cargill assisted Spaihts in reworking the Doctor Strange script. In addition to working with Derrickson on Sinister, Cargill re-teamed with the filmmaker on the script for the horror film’s sequel, Sinister 2 (which Derrickson did not direct).

Although we’ve seen glimpses from the set of Doctor Strange, and an official cast list has been revealed along with a very brief synopsis, we still don’t know much about the film, with a number of characters still unconfirmed. To this end, it’s unclear how much Cargill contributed to the script or, with his primary background in horror, what affect his work will have on the finished Doctor Strange film.

That being said, Doctor Strange has a team of talented actors bringing the story of Stephen Strange to life with a cast that features Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams (rumored to be a version of Night Nurse), Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Michael Stuhlbarg (possibly as Dr. Nicodemus West), and Mads Mikkelsen. Additionally, with Marvel’s confidence in Derrickson’s vision and the strength of the Marvel brand, it seems Doctor Strange is destined to be another successful entry into the MCU.
