A new clip for Once Upon a Deadpool shows the Merc with a Mouth schooling haters of the rock band Nickelback. It was first announced that Deadpool 2 would be receiving a PG-13 release back in September, and now the release of the film is right around the corner. Just in time for the holiday season, Once Upon a Deadpool will be suitable for most teenagers, while also including 20 minutes of new footage.
While Deadpool 2 was previously released in theaters in May of this year, this re-release has gotten a whole new batch of marketing material. Unlike many re-releases, Once Upon a Deadpool got a new trailer, which revealed a Princess Bride-type scenario where Deadpool reads a family-friendly version of Deadpool 2 to Fred Savage. The film has also gotten two posters, both of which feature Savage and Deadpool. Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman has even joined in on the fun of marketing the film, although he probably is not reprising his X-Men role for the film. Now a new promo has been released, which gives a shout-out to a well-known rock band.
The newest clip from Once Upon a Deadpool comes from Ryan Reynolds himself, and shows Deadpool schooling everybody who has ever hated on Nickelback. Nickelback is often at the butt end of jokes, but Deadpool is here to explain why that shouldn’t be the case. After Savage tells Deadpool that Nickelback is, “Over-produced, formulaic, ear-garbage” Deadpool responds by listing off a bunch of achievements and awards the band has won during their career. The clip ends with Savage and Deadpool holding hands while headbanging to Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me.” The full clip can be viewed below.
Since the original Deadpool was a massive success when it was released in 2016, a sequel was inevitable. Two years after the first film, Deadpool 2 was released, which didn’t get as good of reviews as Deadpool but still made a ton of money for 20th Century Fox. Even though it didn’t make as much money as its predecessor, Deadpool 2 still made a worldwide gross over $734 million. Now that a PG-13 version of the film is about to be released, 20th Century Fox can expect to add even more money to Deadpool 2’s box office run.
The Deadpool movies are known for their excessive gore and profanity, but it will be interesting to see how a PG-13 version holds up in theaters. Not only will this draw in teenagers who weren’t allowed into the rated-R version, but many Deadpool fans will go to see the film just because of that 20 extra minutes of footage. Regardless of how well Once Upon a Deadpool does in theaters, fans will only have to wait a few more days to see Deadpool 2 on the big screen again.
