Nothing brightens up the holiday season like a little bit of Deadpool in your Christmas stocking, and that’s why 20th Century Fox is treating fans to 12 Days of Deadpool: a 12-day long celebration of the upcoming film that will culminate with the release of a brand new trailer on Christmas Day. Star Ryan Reynolds has been very active in helping to promote the film, which is understandable since he was one of its strongest proponents when Deadpool was struggling for a green light from Fox.

Based on the character from Marvel Comics, Deadpool follows Wade Wilson as he is diagnosed with multiple types of cancer and, as a desperate last resort, signs up for the Weapon X program that promises to restore his health and turn him into a superhero. He survives, but is left hideously disfigured by the rogue experiments. With a new lease on life and accelerated healing abilities, Wade begins his new career as the wise-cracking, cheerfully violent mercenary known as Deadpool.

To celebrate what is now the fourth day of Deadpool, we have a collection of tidbits that have been shared in celebration of the film, which will arrive in theaters less than two months from now. The first is a short clip that pays homage to Home Alone, with Deadpool laying out a Battle Plan that involves heavy cannons, komodo dragons and Wolverine a.k.a. honey badger. There are also some photos, courtesy of People Magazine, that show Reynolds posing on a 3D poster of his character. Finally, Empire Magazine has unveiled a tease for Deadpool’s cover, which happens to be on his Christmas wish list to Santa.

As an R rated superhero movie that’s set for a February release, Deadpool needs all the promotion it can get, so it’s good to see Fox stepping up to the plate. Deadpool’s appeal lies in its mix of crude humor and violence, as well as in-jokes for dedicated fans of superhero movies, but the real challenge for the movie will be grabbing the attention of more casual moviegoers. The trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con this year got a very positive response, so hopefully the second trailer will live up to the hype as well.

Coming up in the 12 Days of Deadpool are a few more exclusive reveals from film sites, then something from Reynolds himself, and probably some kind of preview on “Trailer Eve.” This is one guy in a red suit who’s guaranteed to show up, regardless of whether you’ve been naughty or nice.

Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016, followed by X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016; Gambit sometime in 2017; Wolverine 3 on March 3, 2017; and some as-yet unspecified X-Men film on July 13, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.
