Dear #DeadpoolPosted by Ryan Reynolds on Sunday, February 21, 2016

Deadpool has had one of the most memorable social media campaigns for any movie in recent history, which is no doubt one of the reasons it continues to break box office records. The movie’s star, Ryan Reynolds, has stepped up to the plate to deliver consistently funny tweets, Instagrams, and Facebook posts on behalf of the Merc with a Mouth.

Reynolds last went viral with his response to a fan petition to have Deadpool host Saturday Night Live. The video, posted on Twitter, made ample use of Deadpool’s penchant for satirizing popular culture, as it made reference to a recently leaked backstage rant by SNL musical guest Kanye West. He wasn’t done there, though.

This time Reynolds has dropped the above video, titled Dear Deadpool, via Facebook. The video is a mock Q&A in which Deadpool responds to viewer questions read by his bartending friend Weasel (T. J. Miller), and does so with unsurprisingly less-than-helpful advice. As an added bonus, there are also subliminal images thrown in that provide pretty good examples of why the movie was R-rated.

The video is part of a cross-promotional campaign with Mike’s Harder Punch, a drink that is appropriately named given how much Deadpool likes hitting things. Questions covered include how to gently offer advice to a bad cook without hurting her pride and how late after a wedding it is still acceptable to give a gift. The responses are…well, they’re definitely from Deadpool.

The cross-promotion seems like a particularly good fit since, like Deadpool, Mike’s Harder Punch is aimed towards a target demographic that is roughly old enough to drink alcohol but not too old to mind the sort of intense hangover that can come from combining that alcohol with a large dose of high-fructose corn syrup. It would have been slightly more confusing, although possibly funnier, to see a Deadpool Merlot or a Wade Wilson IPA. Maybe that will be in the works for the sequel, given the increased prestige of the franchise following its box office success.

Deadpool is now in theaters. X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on May 27, 2016; Gambit sometime in 2017; Wolverine 3 on March 3, 2017; and an unannounced X-Men film on July 13, 2018. The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 currently do not have official release dates.
