Part of what made Deadpool a huge box office success was just how loaded it is with jokes, gags, references, and fourth wall breaking. It’s the kind of movie where if you blink, you’re likely to miss a joke, and there is no reason to think that the Blu-ray release will be any different.
While there have not yet been many details revealed about the home video release, it would be surprising if Fox didn’t take advantage of Blu-ray by offering tongue-in-cheek takes on the features the format traditionally offers - such as outtakes, deleted scenes, and audio commentaries. At least one thing is now known about the Blu-ray release, however: its release date.
Deadpool star and relentless spokesperson Ryan Reynolds has revealed a May 10 release date via Twitter in typically cheeky fashion. In addition, he also offered when audiences would be able to buy the movie on VHS and Laserdisc:

While it may or may not happen, one special feature that might be a good fit for the Blu-ray release would be alternate end credits. According to comments from director Tim Miller in an interview he had with Art of the Title, his wife Jennifer Miller and Creative Director Norn Jordan pitched a few different versions of the closing credits before hitting upon the idea that they finally ran with:
Perhaps Deadpool’s creative team will commission the Honest Trailers crew to provide their take on the movie for the Blu-ray release, which would certainly be in the self-deprecating spirit of the movie itself. Fully animating some of their other ideas for the end credits might be too costly for inclusion, but it still remains a possibility. No doubt whatever ends up being included in the release, it will continue to showcase the trademark wit that has turned Deadpool from a niche comic book character to a runaway cinematic hit.
“Jennifer [Miller], my wife, runs the design side and we decided we were going to do much simpler main-on-ends. She and Creative Director Norn Jordan came up with the concept for [the end credits]. We worked with a few illustrators and designers who had a sense of humour, and between them they handled everything. I think the unicorn idea was Jennifer’s — it was really funny.
But they had pitched a couple of great ideas that I was sorry we couldn’t do. There was a 1980s version of the titles, you know a Knight Rider-style version. They pitched doing our own version of the Honest Trailers, where the guys go in and tell you everything that was wrong with the movie. I loved that idea! We actually wanted to get the guy who does them to do an Honest Trailers version of Deadpool and run it during the titles. I can’t wait until they do one! [laughs]”
Deadpool will be released on Blu-ray on May 10, 2016. X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters May 27th, 2016, followed by Wolverine 3 on March 3rd, 2017, and unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017 (possibly Gambit), January 12th, 2018 (possibly Deadpool 2), and July 13th, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.
