Deadpool 2’s Colossus actor Stefan Kapicic wants to see his character go one on one with Josh Brolin’s MCU rendition of Thanos. It makes sense that the idea of Colossus fighting Thanos would be on Kapicic’s mind, as Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War are not only two of the biggest movies of 2018, they also came out in theaters just three weeks apart. While Wade Wilson’s sequel isn’t quite doing the insane box office numbers of the MCU extravaganza, both films are similarly beloved by both fans and critics.
An interesting connection shared by the two films is of course that both Deadpool 2 and Infinity War count Josh Brolin among their cast. Brolin portrays time-traveling soldier Cable in the Ryan Reynolds-fronted sequel, while playing universe-balancing villain Thanos in the MCU culmination. The roles couldn’t be more different, yet Brolin has earned praise for both performances. As a side effect, the casting also enabled the medium-aware Deadpool to make a fun Thanos joke onscreen.
During a recent press event in London (as reported by Screen Geek), Kapicic talked about how much he enjoyed Colossus squaring off with large, bruising Marvel villain The Juggernaut near the end of Deadpool 2. When asked who he’d like Colossus to fight next, Kapicic chose the biggest target possible: Thanos himself. Here’s his quote on the matter.
As Kapicic alludes to, the fact that both Colossus and Thanos are CGI characters would add an interesting dynamic to a fight between them. It would also theoretically allow both of Brolin’s characters to appear onscreen simultaneously, perhaps even leading to Cable and Thanos duking it out. Of course, it’s unlikely Colossus would realistically last long in a fight with Thanos, as even without the Infinity Gauntlet, the Mad Titan was already able to wipe the floor with the Hulk. There’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t do the same to Colossus, much less Cable.
“I wanna’ fight Thanos, which would be weird because we have Thanos playing Cable. But you know, CGI can do a lot of stuff.”
Regardless of how the actual fight would turn out, there’s also the small matter that Deadpool is a Fox franchise, and Thanos belongs to Disney. That hurdle could go away if Disney’s purchase of Fox’s movie and TV assets is ultimately finalized, but that won’t be for a while yet, and there’s no guarantee Thanos will even still be alive to tangle with imported Fox characters after Avengers 4 hits next summer. Still, a big screen fight between Colossus and Thanos remains a cool idea, even if it’s unlikely to ever happen.
