Update: The Deadpool 2 writers want Peter to get his own X-Force spinoff.
Deadpool 2’s final trailer quickly made a star of unlikely team member Peter, the man who just showed up. This fan poster immortalizes him. While Avengers: Infinity War is pretty clearly the most anticipated theatrical release of 2018 for most moviegoers, not far behind on that list is Deadpool 2, the sequel to 2016’s smash hit R-rated film starring the Merc with a Mouth. Made on a budget of of $58 million, Deadpool destroyed all expectations, raking in over $780 million worldwide.
Deadpool was also a huge hit with critics, holding an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s actually a bit surprising, considering how lowbrow most of the film’s humor is. If anything though, Deadpool proves that lowbrow comedy can be just as hilarious as more sophisticated fare, provided it’s done right. Naturally, many fans are wondering if Deadpool 2 can possibly be as funny as the original. Thankfully, the trailers so far have done nothing to discourage fans from expecting an experience just as hilarious this time out.
While Deadpool 2’s final trailer was packed full of great jokes - including an uproarious dig about the “darkness” of the DC movie universe - perhaps the biggest laugh came at the very end, in the form of unlikely X-Force member Peter. Unlike the rest of Deadpool’s makeshift team of assembled heroes, Peter doesn’t possess any powers. In fact, he’s just a guy who saw the ad looking for help, and decided to show up. Unsurprisingly, Deadpool appreciates his initiative, and puts him on the team anyway. Now, Peter has been rendered immortal via a new fan poster by Boss Logic. Check it out below, in all it’s ordinary glory.
It’s hard to imagine Peter ever getting an actual spinoff film to go with the above poster, as he’s the type of amusing joke character who’s best left to the supporting realm. That said, if FOX ever felt like doing a tie-in short film for the Deadpool 2 Blu-Ray release - similar to what Marvel Studios has sometimes done with the Marvel One-Shots - Peter seems like the perfect subject. After all, it would be interesting to see what Peter’s wife - mentioned on his Twitter account - thinks of his new side gig.
