DC Collectibles displays a Joker Bust designed by famous Hollywood special effects/makeup artist Rick Baker, Batman and Joker figures by Gerard Way, awesome Artists Alley statues, and plenty more at Toy Fair 2018.
The American International Toy Fair officially kicked off this weekend in New York City, but toy manufacturers kicked off the hype well before the show by revealing teases of what they would have on display. Funko revealed their full line of Toy Fair debuts - which includes a Bob Ross Deadpool inspired by the sequel’s teaser trailer - and Hasbro revealed new Marvel Legends figures as well as a Thanos Infinity Gauntlet toy inspired by Avengers: Infinity War. At Toy Fair, McFarlane displayed Stranger Things figures and a whole host of other upcoming or already on sale toys. Now, we have a better look at what DC Collectibles brought to the show.
Prior to the show, DC Collectibles unveiled their new Joker bust designed by Rick Baker, but Screen Rant had a chance to take a look at the statue on display at the company’s Toy Fair booth. Other awesome figures we saw include those in DC Collectibles’ Artists Alley line - vinyl figures of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman designed by Chris Uminga (releasing in June); vinyl figures of Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn designed by Nooligan (releasing in September); and vinyl figures of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn designed by Sho Murase (releasing in November). We also saw an unpainted Superman statue designed by Jim Lee that fits into DC Collectibles’ Designer series (though it won’t be released for sale unpainted). Lee teased the statue on Twitter, praising sculptor Djordje Djokovic for his work. Plus, DC Collectibles displayed figures from their Batman Black and White line, one designed by Becky Cloonan that will release in July, as well as Batman and Joker figures designed by Gerard Way that will hit shelves in October. Way’s figure designs were pulled from a Batman comics pitch that didn’t move forward, and will be great for fans of his work on The Umbrella Academy and other books
DC Collectibles also showed off a new DCTV statue honoring The CW’s latest superhero offering, Black Lightning. The TV series has been praised by critics and fans alike for bringing the comic book property to life in a thoughtful drama. The DC Collectibles statue is based on Cress Williams’ portrayal of Jefferson Pierce aka. Black Lightning and debuts in July. Additionally, DC Collectibles showed off the first Doomsday Clock action figures based on the limited comics series DC launched in late 2017. The six figures come in two packs that will be released in late 2018: Doctor Manhattan and Ozymandias in September, Rorschach and Mime in October, and Marionette and the Comedian in November.
DC Collectibles had plenty more on display: Supergirl and Batgirl statues from the Gotham City Garage line; Batman and Catwoman, Joker’s Daughter, and Wonder Woman from DC Bombshells; eight new action figures from DC Essentials; a Teen Titans multi-part statue recreating the iconic cover of The New Teen Titans; and new expression packs from Batman: The Animated Series. There was truly something for every kind of collector or toy fan among DC Collectibles’ Toy Fair display, but fans may need to wait until much later this year before getting their hands on certain figures.
