Sony Bend isn’t quite ready to give out full details on when their ambitious action title Days Gone is coming out, but they were willing to offer up some information when asked. Screen Rant recently talked to Studio Director Chris Reese, who revealed that an announcement regarding the release date would be coming “very soon.” That’s a good sign for the development of the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Days Gone immediately became one of PlayStation’s marquee titles when it was revealed way back at E3 2016. The game has received stage demos during their press conferences the past two years, and serves as the biggest title to date for Sony Bend. The studio previously worked on the well-received PlayStation Vita launch title Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and were the longtime developer of the Syphon Filter series. This will mark their debut PlayStation 4 release, and their first proper console game since 2004’s Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. So, it’s been a long time coming.
Screen Rant had a chance to speak with Sony Bend Studio Director Chris Reese at the recent PlayStation Judge’s Week event. “We’ll have more info on that very soon,” Reese told Screen Rant when asked about the PlayStation 4 exclusive’s release date. He didn’t have anything else concrete regarding the date, but the announcement tease is big in and of itself.
While Days Gone isn’t listed as one of the four announced games that will serve as major tentpoles for Sony’s E3 2018 press conference (instead, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II will all be focused upon), it’s highly likely that the title will play a major role. While coy, that’s likely what Reese is referring to that when he says that they’ll have more information soon. Sony PlayStation’s E3 showcase is all set to go down June 11, so it’s just a few more days until gamers will learn more about the console maker’s biggest upcoming titles.
Sony will also be looking to distance Days Gone from another one of their post-apocalyptic titles, The Last of Us Part II. While there’s some clear differences between the two titles, they’ve been compared and contrasted since the initial announcement. It will be interesting to see how the company looks to differentiate the two and give Days Gone its own identity rather than feeling like the other big PlayStation exclusive about zombies… or freakers, as they are known in the game.
