It’s difficult to catch a break when living the dark, gritty life of a New York vigilante. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) may have won himself a string of victories during the first season of Daredevil, but there are still more battles for him to fight. The fight against Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) was only the beginning. Between the arrival of The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), the return of his former flame Elektra (Elodie Yung), and the remaining threat of the Hell’s Kitchen criminal underworld, Daredevil’s hands will be full this year.

Being Daredevil means getting hurt; it’s an inevitability that the blind lawyer prepared himself for. However, if a new international promo image from Daredevil’s second season is any indication, Matt Murdock will remain a target even when he hangs up his red suit for the evening.

Released online – courtesy of CBM – the new promotional image shows Matt Murdock’s trademark glasses neatly folded on the ground, with cracks in each lens. At the bottom of the image one can see only the Daredevil logo and the phrase “Seconda Stagione,” which is Italian for second season. Check it out below:

Overall the image maintains Daredevil’s trademark minimalist style. Promotional material for the series tends to utilize dark, blank backgrounds with simple representations of objects or characters. In this way the images tend to mirror the blind Matt Murdock’s own way of taking the world in: simple and uncluttered yet endlessly profound.

On a more literal level the image has some noteworthy implications for the personal life of Daredevil’s alter ego. The first season of the hit Netflix series kept violence relatively distant from Matt during the daylight hours – he would typically go looking for danger once he had donned his mask. Now it seems the danger will find him when he is not necessarily ready for it. The threat may come from The Punisher, Kingpin, or perhaps an as of yet unannounced villain, but the image seems to suggest this season of Daredevil will see Matt struck where it hurts.

Then again, the threats against Daredevil’s secret identity may not have anything in particular to do with his vigilante activities. As a lawyer, he’s bound to make enemies during the course of his day job, so it remains entirely plausible that he earned this danger without anyone discovering what his nightly activities consist of. Audiences will just have to wait and see.

Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Daredevil season 2 will debut on Netflix on March 18th, 2016, followed by Luke Cage season 1 later in 2016. Release dates for Iron Fist and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced. Screen Rant will keep you updated on the Punisher spinoff as development continues.
