Charlie Cox of Netflix’s Daredevil would like to see a team up with Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Netflix released the first season of the hit Marvel TV show in 2015. Since that time, fans have seen how the stories of the MCU can (or, really, can’t) intertwine from the big to the small screen.
The show has maintained a steady following over the years, with season 3 set for a 2018 release. In 2017, The Defenders did give fans a crossover when Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand/Iron Fist teamed up following the events of Daredevil season 2, with the four heroes taking on The Hand. But there’s more to the MCU than merely fighting The Hand and other street-level villains; there’s an entire shared universe out there, and Cox would like to be a part of it.
At a Q&A session with fans, Cox told the panel at Las Vegas Comic Con (via Collider) that he would love to partner with Spider-Man, presumably Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Cox was extremely hesitant in giving a clear answer to the question, saying, “I have to be really careful here." Marvel Studios is, after all, notorious for being extremely secretive, even to the point of withholding information from their own cast members. Cox eventually gave his definite answer to the question.
This isn’t the first time Cox has expressed an interest in the super powered partnership. In 2015, when Andrew Garfield was still portraying the web-slinging superhero, Cox discussed a few comic issues that featured the pair, offering an opportunity for the MCU to possibly adapt those stories to the screen. As for likely future partnerships for Daredevil, there is no word yet as to a new season of The Defenders.
“I mean, I’m sure I can say this. And I’ll just preface it by saying that I can’t see how this would happen. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. But I have no information to suggest that this would ever happen. But it’d be really cool to see…I’d love to do something with Spider-Man.”
Keeping in mind how Marvel Studios tends to keep plans on future films and shows quiet, fans may not get the confirmation they want on any future team ups where Daredevil is concerned. Marvel Comics has a treasure trove of exciting stories and fascinating pairings that could make for great screen adaptations. Moving forward, the movie-side of the shared universe is busy focusing on the next crossover event, Avengers 4, instead of how the MCU could tie into the TV shows. So, while the television shows seem to be moving at a steadier pace, fans can look forward to the big screen crossover events coming soon, but they may have to wait on pairings - like Daredevil and Spider-Man - for quite some time, if they ever happen at all.
