The live-action Scooby-Doo spinoff movie Daphne & Velma has received a trailer. The film will show what the female duo was up to prior to meeting the rest of Mystery Inc. The direct-to-video film will release this spring.
The immensely popular Scooby-Doo franchise revolves around Scooby and his four teenage friends: Shaggy Rogers, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley. Calling themselves Mystery Inc., they work together to solve mysteries that generally involve a person dressing up as a monster or a ghost. The group’s adventures have far expanded beyond the original cartoon series, Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? to include additional TV shows, live-action adaptations, comic books, video games, and toys. Scooby and the gang will soon be featured in a crossover with The CW’s Supernatural in a crossover episode titled “ScoobyNatural”.
Warner Bros. has released through EW the full trailer for Daphne & Velma. The trailer shows the two teenagers investigating strange occurrences at their high school, Ridge Valley High. Apparently, the top students of the school have been mysteriously turned into “lifeless zombies,” and Daphne and Velma are determined to search for clues and get to the bottom of the case. Daphne believes that a ghost could be involved, but Velma insists that ghosts don’t exist. In the trailer, fans get to hear Velma use her trademark expression, “Jinkies!”

It was announced in November that Daphne & Velma was moving forward with Sarah Jeffery and Sarah Gilman attached to star as Daphne and Velma, respectively. Directed by Suzi Yoonessi from a script written by Kyle Mack and Caitlin Meares, the film is produced by Jennifer and Ashley Tisdale and their production company, Blondie Girl Productions. The film also stars Vanessa Marano, Brian Stepanek, Stephen Ruffin, and Evan Castelloe.
Though the Scooby-Doo franchise has been known to experiment by taking different directions with the characters, this is the first time fans will see a Scooby-Doo movie without Scooby and Shaggy. What fans may appreciate about the film is that the two lead characters retain the spirit of their cartoon counterparts. As shown in the trailer, Daphne is still the beautiful redhead known for her fashion sense and tendency to get into trouble, while Velma is the brainy and cautious skeptic who is quick to dismiss anything out of the ordinary with a logical explanation.
