The DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special that aired on the CW network turned out to be quite eventful. Fans were treated to a lot of footage of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, but also a bit of insight into other members of the upcoming Justice League films, including The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg.

DC Comics fans were given a peek into what they can expect from this version of these heroes. The special provided fans with a brief interview with Ray Fisher, who will be portraying the Victor Stone character in both the Justice League movies and the planned Cyborg solo film, along with footage that includes images from the comic books and some concept art for the live action character.

DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns explained a bit about the character:

Ray Fisher, the man portraying Cyborg on-screen, had some insight into the robotic hero:

“Victor Stone is an athlete, whose father is scientist. Victor is in a horrible accident and it is only through his father’s talents and skills in technology that he survives. But he survives only because he’s rebuilt into a cyborg.” Johns goes on to say “He’s online 24/7. He doesn’t sleep. He just takes in data.”

“He is a technopath, which means he can just interface seamlessly with anything technological.  His greatest weakness is actually trying not to succumb to the technology. Trying to stay human.”

Cyborg, also known as Victor “Vic” Stone, first found his way into the hearts of fans when he debuted in the pages of DC Comics Presents #26 in October of 1980. The original comic book incarnation of Cyborg was a prominent member of the sidekick-based superhero group, Teen Titans. He was created by Teen Titans gurus Marv Wolfman and George Perez in what would become a golden age for the superhero team throughout the 1980s. Victor is a test subject for intelligence enhancing experiments that his parents are doing at S.T.A.R. Labs and when a inter-dimensional portal goes haywire a monster kills his mother and mutilates Victor. Vic’s father saves him by turning him into the mostly mechanized Cyborg.

The New 52 comic book revamp of the character didn’t stray far from the original, with the exception of a few details. One major change was that Victor joins the Justice League as a founding member, instead of the youthful Teen Titans. This change has also carried over to the recent DC Universe Animated films, as well.

The character had a long stretch of very little quality attention throughout the 1990s. It wasn’t until the birth of the Cartoon Network Teen Titans animated series in 2004 that the character began to really resonate with fans, both hardline and mainstream, again. The masterful voice work by Khary Payton has really helped to give birth to a more likable and accessible version of Cyborg that appeals to all ages. Payton’s work on the character has become so iconic that he has gone on to portray him in the New Teen Titans shorts, Teen Titans Go!, the Lego DC Comics movies and even in some video games.
