Matt Letscher reveals that while working on Legends of Tomorrow, a Legion of Doom sitcom was pitched to the CW. Letscher played Eobard Thawne, aka the Reverse Flash, in the CW’s Arrowverse, starting out on The Flash, from season 1 through season 3, before moving over to the spin-off series Legends of Tomorrow. Reverse Flash was a major part of the second season of the time-traveling superhero show, as he recruited Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), and later, Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), to create the Legion of Doom.
The Legion were the big bads of Legends of Tomorrow’s sophomore season, and they even altered reality itself to create Legends’ Doomworld - a version of the world where the Legion ruled and the superheroes were (almost) all dead. One of the best things about the Legion, though, was the way that these major villains played off against each other. And now, Letscher has revealed that they wanted this evil team to come back in a sitcom of their own.
In an interview with Discussing Film, Matt Letscher talked about how much fun he had filming Legends of Tomorrow, and although he’s said there aren’t any immediate plans for him to return to the Arrowverse, he does say that he would have loved to do a Legion of Doom sitcom:
At the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 2, the Legends finally managed to defeat the Legion, although they did break time in doing so (which is what they’ve been busy fixing in the third season so far). Damien Darhk was killed but has now been resurrected by his daughter, Nora (Courtney Ford), to work for Mallus. The other Legion members, however, are no more. Malcolm and Captain Cold are back in their respective timelines, and Reverse-Flash was destroyed by Black Flash, which means that a sitcom would be a little bit tough to put together. Of course, this is a time travel show, so it’s still entirely possible for them to return some other point during their team’s history… or even a sitcom set in Doomworld itself.
“[Working on Legends of Tomorrow] was a lot of fun; I had a great time with those guys. And you can tell they’re having fun, too. It was definitely one of those sets that was really easy to work on, everybody was such a pro. …We pitched - multiple times, we pitched - a half-hour sitcom version of Legion of Doom to the powers that be at CW. Nobody’s bitten yet, but I still think there’s a possibility.”
Of course, it’s clear that Letscher means this primarily as a joke, and we doubt that he and the rest of the Legion actors are seriously pitching a sitcom series (at least not anymore). However, a Legion of Doom sitcom would be an incredible addition to the CW - and a very different feel for this corner of the live-action DC universe.
