Constantine is all set to return as an animated series on the CW Seed, and now we have the first poster. While The CW has turned out four series so far set in the Arrowverse, that hasn’t stopped a number of shows focusing on DC characters from appearing on other networks. Even Supergirl began life as a CBS series. And then there’s Constantine.

When Constantine debuted on NBC, it featured plenty of nods to DC Comics. Still, it sat outside of The CW’s Arrowverse. That all changed, however, when the show was cancelled. After some social media back and forth between Matt Ryan and Stephen Amell and rumors of a Netflix revival, Constantine eventually appeared on an episode of Arrow. With the move, his universe was eventually made part of Arrowverse canon. Now, his adventures will continue.

The animated Constantine series will arrive on CW Seed in 2018. The series will see Ryan return as con man and paranormal detective John Constantine, and the first poster is now available (see below):

J.M. DeMatteis, who wrote the character in the Justice League Dark animated movie (also starring Ryan), will handle the script for the series, with David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy) executive producing. The Arrowverse’s Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also produce.

After Constantine appeared on Arrow, Seed acquired the rights to the NBC series. Now, the animated show will join both Vixen and the upcoming Freedom Fighters: The Ray. Like Constantine, those shows sit firmly in the Arrowverse. Vixen herself has appeared on Arrow and her story will have a big impact on this season of Legends of Tomorrow. Meanwhile, both The Ray and his Earth-X setting will drive the action in the Arrowverse crossover this year. Given that, it could only be a matter of time before Matt Ryan’s Constantine returns in live-action form.

Along with the two TV shows and the animated film, John Constantine is still expected to headline the proposed Justice League Dark film for Warner Bros. If the CW Seed’s animated TV series does well, perhaps Goyer or DeMatteis could be brought onboard the Justice League Dark movie to help make it a reality. Who knows, maybe Matt Ryan will even get to play Constantine on the big screen.

Constantine debuts on CW Seed in 2018.
