Sony’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con will largely focus on the studio’s two upcoming Spider-Man-centric films, Venom and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Both films are potentially ground-breaking for Sony. Venom is intended to be the start of a Spider-villains universe, with the studio hoping to build a super-villain rival for the MCU that’s centered on antiheroes and secondary characters. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, meanwhile, is Sony’s first attempt to create a big-screen Spider-Man movie. It stars Shameik Moore as the young Miles Morales, and will introduce a whole host of alternate-reality Spider-Men such as Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir and Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen. There are even rumors it will introduce viewers to Spider-Ham.

The Sony panel will kick off in Hall H at 6:15pm PST/9:15pm EST on Friday. Sony showed extensive footage of both films at CinemaCon back in April, and it’s reasonable to assume they’ll do the same at San Diego. Venom star Tom Hardy has been doing the rounds at different cons, and it’s a safe bet that he’ll return, likely accompanied by other stars such as Michelle Williams. SDCC will be a key moment for Venom; the film’s marketing got off to a bad start with a widely-derided teaser trailer that didn’t even give a glimpse of the tongue-slavering symbiote, but since then Sony seems to have succeeded in a course-correction, and it’s gradually winning people over. Meanwhile, Sony has teased that the “creators” of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will also be in attendance, presumably meaning Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be part of the panel as well. Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot will moderate the cast and filmmaker panels.

Although it’s now been confirmed Venom isn’t part of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are persistent rumors Sony will bring in Tom Holland for the panel too. Holland is currently in London filming Spider-Man: Far From Home, but that’s technically a Sony project, so the studio could well choose to disrupt it in order to boost the panel’s star power. It sadly doesn’t look likely that Holland’s Spider-Man and Hardy’s Venom will ever interact on the big screen, but at least attendees may well see the two actors side-by-side.

In addition to the two Spider-Man-centered films, there are reports that Sony may also include looks at Holmes and Watson (starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly), new thriller Searching, Alpha, Slender Man or Goosebumps: Halloween. James Gunn is also expected to debut a new project, possibly a Bloodborne movie.
