Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players are sharing a powerful new feature in Cyber Attack mode they didn’t even realize was available to them. The latest installment in the CoD franchise, Modern Warfare was released in October 2019 and included several new game modes, including survival and the Cyber Attack objective.
Modern Warfare quickly rose to become one of the most popular CoD games for online play, seeing the highest multiplayer numbers of any Call of Duty games for the current consoles – and sales figures did similarly well. One of the things that kept players coming back to level their battle passes was the wide variety of modes, including Search and Destroy, Infected, 2v2, Team Deathmatch, and more. With so many different modes to explore in the game, players are still coming across secrets and abilities that weren’t fully understood before.
The latest discovery, which players like Sakar911 have been posting on Reddit, applies to the Cyber Attack mode. Here, the object is to find a mobile EMP bomb and sneak it into the enemy team’s base to set it off – a little like a Capture the Flag game with no respawns, only teammate revivals. It wasn’t until recently, however, that players realized holding the EMP device itself granted a special buff: A small radar screen on the bomb can act as a heartbeat and UAV (drone) sensor, showing where enemies are through walls.
There are no hints or instructions that show this particular feature for the EMP bomb, so players had to discover it themselves. The community was quick to admit that many of them hadn’t even noticed the feature during their time trying out different modes. Of course, with such a useful radar system available to the bomb carrier at all times, teamplay strategies for the Cyber Attack mode can rapidly shift while benefiting from consistent communication - at least, for those who know the trick exists. As Sakar911 showed, it’s also lovely for sneaking up and eliminating enemy team players on the way to the base.
Hopefully, this discovery and others will encourage players to explore less-active modes like Cyber Attack in greater detail to see what other tactics are possible. Activision-Blizzard will also be adding new games modes in the future to further expand CoD: Modern Warfare’s roster of activities, so there’s plenty of opportunity for more fun features to make their way to the game (included beloved Doge). As long as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s player count remains as high as it is now, there’s plenty of gamers to make all modes interested and well-inhabited – especially if they find a few more secrets like this.
