Marvel is constantly looking for new ways to expand the reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While nothing will quite match the attention garnered by the MCU films, Marvel has continued to receive mostly positive reactions to its MCU TV slate too. Case in point: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is in the midst of a strong fourth season on ABC, while Netflix has produced outstanding series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage so far. This is only the beginning too, as 2017 will see Marvel TV air or start production on multiple new series, like Hulu’s Runaways an an IMAX-produced Inhumans TV show for ABC.
One of the other new projects that Marvel is looking to start production on soon is Cloak & Dagger - positioned to be Marvel’s first TV show to air on Freeform. Described as a love story with superpowers, recent updates concerning the TV show point to production on Cloak & Dagger getting underway rather soon. Now, new character breakdowns from the series provide a sneak peek at what versions of Dagger (Tandy Bowen) and Cloak (Ty Johnson) will be featured on the show.
That Hashtag Show has revealed character breakdowns for both of the leads in Cloak & Dagger - and they shouldn’t be too surprising for fans of the original Marvel comics. Unfortunately, no supporting characters are included in the breakdown, so for now Dagger and Cloak are the only characters known to be part of the show. In the breakdowns below, Tara is the stand-in name for Tandy and Travis will be Ty:
- Tara - Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian. Tara was a plucky southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything. Now she’s a cynic who steals from tourists to make ends meet. Life took from her. She’s going to take back. But can that light be rekindled? Series Lead. Travis - Male. 18 to play 17. African American. When Travis was a little boy he was fearless. But then he made a mistake and it cost him dearly. So Travis grew up in a fear. Scared of a world he couldn’t control. So he controlled what he could. Keeping his head down, focusing on school and basketball. Locking in on fear. But is that brave boy still in there? Series Lead.
The breakdowns themselves are prototypical versions of Cloak and Dagger, so there is little room for surprises on that front. One thing that is interesting to note is the casting call that included the breakdowns lists both roles as still being available. Yesterday, a rumor came out that Cloak & Dagger may have already found its leads in Debby Ryan and Noah Gray-Gabey. Both actors are older than the listed desired age from these breakdowns, so there could be nothing to this report anymore. Then again, there is no telling how old this information could be, so things could’ve changed since then.
That said, it does further confirm that Gina Prince-Bythewood is going to serve as a director, and that the series will begin production in February. If the series really is going to be filming so soon, it is only a matter of time before further official announcements are made. Stay tuned to Screen Rant for future updates on the series.
Cloak & Dagger will reportedly debut on Freeform in 2018.
