Two new posters for the Child’s Play remake show Chucky killing Buzz Lightyear and Slinky from the Toy Story franchise. Chucky slashed his way to theaters back in 1988 for Tom Holland’s original Child’s Play movie and has returned for a number of lackluster sequels. Toy Story on the other hand has only had three films in the franchise so far, but all three of the movies have gotten overwhelmingly positive reviews. Now, both of the franchises are returning to the big screen this month.
Not only will Toy Story 4 and Child’s Play be coming out this month, but the two films will actually go head to head on June 21. Toy Story 4 will see the return of fan favorite toys like Woody, Buzz, and Bo Peep, but will also introduce new characters like Forky, Bunny, and Ducky. Child’s Play won’t follow the continuity of the past seven Child’s Play films, but will instead be a remake featuring a high-tech Chucky. Orion Pictures previously released a poster showing Chucky murdering Woody, but now Chucky has taken the lives of two more Toy Story toys.
Orion has released two new posters for Child’s Play, featuring Chucky killing Buzz and Slinky. The poster featuring Buzz Lightyear was just released today (via Bloody Disgusting), but the one showing Chucky roasting Slinky over a fire (via CBR) was revealed a few weeks ago. The posters have to make slight changes to the design of the Toy Story characters for copyright purposes, but it’s obvious what Orion is going for. Both posters can be seen below:
While people have been skeptical about the Child’s Play remake to say the least, the marketing for the film has been quite clever. Not only have these Toy Story mashup posters been released, but Orion has even gone as far as creating a website for the fictional Buddi dolls. The website has been continually updated with new material and even had holiday cards and wallpapers featuring Chucky for Christmas. The typical posters and trailers for Child’s Play have also been released, but these teaser posters poking fun at the Toy Story rivalry are arguably more entertaining.
Even though both franchises have a loyal fanbase, it’s likely that Toy Story 4 will come out on top. Both Toy Story 4 and Child’s Play feature toys that come to life, but the Disney franchise is obviously more of a family-friendly movie. Director Lars Klevberg has already been facing an uphill battle since his remake will not only change Chucky’s backstory, but also won’t have Brad Dourif voicing Chucky. That being said, Klevberg’s movie likely got some more people on his side when Mark Hamill was announced as Chucky. The summer movie season has just begun and fans won’t have to wait too much longer to catch both Toy Story 4 and Child’s Play in theaters.
