Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Evans revealed that, unlike most of his co-stars, he got to read the whole script for the film. Marvel Studios is currently preparing for their biggest release to date – Avengers: Infinity War, which not only coincides with the studio’s 10th anniversary but also marks the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans have come to know.

The film will bring together the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and several newcomers, such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange in order to fight their biggest threat to date: Thanos, who has been on a quest to collect all six Infinity Stones. With the largest ensemble that the MCU has had, and a storyline that will bring multiple casualties, it’s not surprising that Marvel’s legendary secrecy has peaked, to the point where not even the cast got to read the full script, except for maybe a few people.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Chris Evans was asked about how much of the script he was allowed to read – considering Benedict Cumberbatch read the entire Avengers script – and he said that he actually got to read the entire thing; he even took one copy of the script home, despite that being entirely against the rules. He said:

Many cast members have spoken about how they were only given the parts of the script where they characters appear – especially Tom Holland, who has history as a terrible secret-keeper. Just like Evans, Holland took a copy of the script home, but as they are supposed to hand them at the end of the day in order to avoid leaks, he Holland decided to burn it. However, other cast members chose not to read the script, such as Dave Bautista, who said that he wants to enjoy the film when it’s released.

“They let me read it, but you gotta get fussy. The level of secrecy has only increased over the years, so worried about leaks. So, you have kind of put your foot down and say, ‘Give me the script.’ …I took one home. You’re not supposed to, but I took one home. This is actually going to get me in trouble.’”

The reason behind this is simple: in order to avoid leaks, directors Anthony and Joe Russo not only gave incomplete scripts to some actors, but they also handed fake scripts and shot Avengers fake scenes, with Paul Bettany confirming that they didn’t know those scenes were fake until they got on set and were given “the real deal”. If Evans was given a full, real script or a fake one is unknown, but, hopefully, once the film is out and fans can freely talk about it, he will share if what he read was the real deal or not.

With just a few days away from the release of Infinity War, it’s being encouraged not only by fans but the Russo Brothers themselves to not share spoilers on social media, even launching the #ThanosDemandsYourSilence campaign – all this in hopes that all the secrecy that has been built around the film will pay off.
