Ticket pre-sales for Captain Marvel in the first 24 hours on Fandango puts it among the top three Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Marvel Studios is in the final stretch of promoting Brie Larson’s solo movie and the excitement is growing. Not only is it the first female led movie to come from the MCU, but it will also introduce Carol Danvers before she has an influential role in Avengers: Endgame a few months later.

Although Carol has not yet made an appearance in the MCU, she will retroactively go down as one of the universe’s longest-serving heroes. Her solo movie will tell her origin in the 1990s, over two decades before she’ll make a return in Avengers 4. Audiences may not have met the character yet, but Avengers: Infinity War’s post-credits scene set her up in a major way - when Nick Fury’s pager revealed her emblem. Still, Disney continues to promote their upcoming blockbuster by releasing new footage and allowing us to share our experience from the set. One of the latest efforts of the marketing strategy has been the release of brand new posters that announced Captain Marvel tickets are now on sale.

All of these events have been used to build up the Captain Marvel hype even more and Fandango’s pre-sale tickets indicate it is working. The ticket selling service announced today that after the first 24 hours of being on sale, Captain Marvel has sold more tickets already than all but two MCU films. The top 3 placement by Fandango puts the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed movie only behind the second place Black Panther and Infinity War’s current record.

Similarly, for Atom Tickets:

This is an impressive start for Captain Marvel, with it being able to quickly top 18 prior MCU movies. That said, ticket pre-sale habits and tracking the data has only just become popular in the last several years, so to has Disney’s efforts to push pre-sales, so the full meaning of this placement for Captain Marvel isn’t clear if every year the record is broken. There’s also no data on Fandango’s side regarding how close Captain Marvel was to either Black Panther or Infinity War, two films that opened over $200 million domestically in their first weekends and easily surpassed $1 billion worldwide. Even if those box office numbers aren’t in range, this pre-sales record reaffirms that there is a lot of interest in the next MCU film.

“Captain Marvel has already eclipsed other Marvel movies including Deadpool 2, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Black Panther, and Venom in the first 24 hours of pre-sales on Atom Tickets. This is remarkable because the movie’s opening is still two months away. And while Avengers: Infinity War still holds the top spot for best 24-hour pre-sales—tickets to the movie went on sale just 42 days before it’s opening–it’s looking like Captain Marvel could outpace it in terms of overall pre-sales on Atom Tickets.”

Fans who have already bought tickets for Captain Marvel or just plan to see the movie in theaters at all will be rewarded with plenty of connections to the larger universe too. Familiar characters are spread throughout the film’s ensemble, like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) or Guardians of the Galaxy’s Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), and there’s recently been evidence that suggests an Infinity Stone will be featured. There’s also potential for the movie to set up future storylines for the MCU from major Marvel Comics events, such as Secret Invasion. Between these MCU ties and the overdue female spotlight, Captain Marvel has given fans plenty of reasons to get excited, and they clearly are based on these ticket sales.
