New set photos from Captain Marvel show Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) saving a two-eyed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Marvel Studios just rocked the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Infinity War, leaving everyone wondering how it will conclude next year in Avengers 4. Before fans see the culmination of this story, they’ll first see two movies set prior to it. Ant-Man and The Wasp takes place right before or in conjunction with Infinity War, while Carol’s origin story will be told back in the 1990s.
By placing the movie in the past, Marvel has given themselves the opportunity to bring back several characters from previous MCU films, including the likes of Phil Coulson, Ronan, and Korath, but audiences will also get to see a younger Nick Fury before his eye-patch-wearing days. Despite production starting a few weeks ago, fans hadn’t yet seen what the ’90s Fury actually looks like - that is, until now.
HollywoodPipeline shares new photos from the set of Captain Marvel featuring Larson and Jackson working together for the first time. The scene appears to feature Carol saving Fury in some way, but also shows Fury’s regular look. The final product won’t be exactly what is seen in the following photos as they’ll most likely use de-aging technology (the reasoning for the white dots on Jackson’s face) to make Fury look a few decades younger.

Fury with two eyes looks exactly like what people would expect, but the importance of his eyes will be how he loses one of them. Fury said in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that the last time he trusted someone he lost an eye. Captain Marvel will be his earliest appearance in the MCU timeline so far and it is assumed that this movie will show how he lost that eye. Who exactly Fury trusted only to be betrayed remains to be seen, but there are plenty of options on the table.
Outside of Fury’s look, it is also worth noting that Larson once again is wearing the Kree-version of the Captain Marvel suit and is still on Earth. The first unofficially released concept art for the movie featured her fighting in space in the classic blue, red, and yellow colors, but there’s been no indication thus far that the suit will actually appear in the movie. Maybe that will be saved for Avengers 4 where she’s likely to have a major role. Meanwhile, the Earth setting for most of these photos isn’t a concern as all of the cosmic scenes are surely being filmed on a soundstage with massive sets and green screen. They’ll have to at least introduce Carol on Earth anyway, so this could all be right before she gets involved in the Kree-Skrull war.
