Jude Law has revealed the reason for the conflict causing the Kree-Skrull war in Captain Marvel, while also confirming the presence of the Supreme Intelligence. Marvel Studios’ twenty-first movie will be their first female led film and stars Brie Larson in the lead role of Carol Danvers. For the purposes of the film, Marvel is telling her origin in the 1990s and sees Carol already operating as a hero - known as Vers - in the Kree military team called Starforce, which is run by Law’s mysterious character.

The marketing for Captain Marvel has given a decent spotlight to the Kree aspects of the film, such as showing their home planet Hala or even portions of the Starforce in action. But, Carol will crash land on Earth and start to remember her former life. She’ll have to work with Nick Fury to figure this out, all while attempting to stop the shape shifting alien race known as the Skrulls from taking over Earth. It has long been confirmed that the Kree-Skrull war will be at the center of Captain Marvel, but we’ve learned a bit more about the actual conflict driving it.

Screen Rant visited the set of Captain Marvel and got to speak to Jude Law, who provided some additional insight into the much talked about Kree-Skrull war. According to Law, the war is the result of the two very different ways of life the alien species’ have. They don’t see eye-to-eye on just about anything, and Law even says that his character (whatever his mysterious identity may be) especially dislikes the shape shifting rivals.

Given the possible villainous identity of Law’s character in Captain Marvel, his viewpoint on the Kree-Skrull war may not line up exactly with the rest of his people. Even if that is not the case, Law’s character clearly doesn’t believe the Skrulls are just misunderstood like Ben Mendelsohn. However, since Carol says in the trailer, “I’m not going to fight your war, I’m going to end it.”, it is more likely that neither of their viewpoints will be shared by our lead hero.

The Kree and the Skrulls are constantly in conflict, so both communities are living really at high alert and both obviously live with a huge wariness of each other. And obviously as a part of the military, not only that but as a commander of the military, and as a poster boy of the military obviously of the Krees, my character is somewhat judgmental and full of hatred towards the Skrulls.

The Skrulls to the Krees really represent despicable maneuvering and manipulation. The Skrulls have this way of simulating other people and turning into other things, so it’s this idea of subterfuge where you’re not who you really are, whereas the Kree have a kind of purity and honesty to them as I see it.

Our conversation with Law didn’t stop with the Kree-Skrull war though, as he also divulged some details about the Supreme Intelligence and his character’s relationship with it. Not only is this further confirmation that the Supreme Intelligence will be featured in Captain Marvel, but Law revealed his character has a particularly complex relationship with it.

For those unfamiliar, the Supreme Intelligence is the leader of the Kree and is a collection of the greatest Kree minds that ever lived. It is capable of being visited by members of the Kree and it appears to have a large and influential role in Captain Marvel. The being may very well be one of the film’s true villains and could be using Law’s character to meet its ultimate goal - whatever that may be. These details on the Kree-Skrull war and the role of the Supreme Intelligence help make Captain Marvel’s plot a bit more clear, but plenty of mystery still remains for the theater too.

It’s interesting, he has a very particular relationship–and any of you who know a lot about the Kree, there’s sort of a divine element called the Supreme Intelligence–and that comes it play in this. Each of the Starforce, indeed each of the Kree warriors, has a particular relationship with the Supreme Intelligence, and my character has a very particular relationship with the Supreme Intelligence which becomes revealed and is quite complex and ultimately very revealing of what it is that motivates him. I’ve kind of based him almost on… not a religious fanatic but he’s got a sort of Divine sense of purpose because of his relationship with this greater being.
