UPDATE: Read our breakdown of the Captain Marvel trailer.

Marvel Studios releases the Captain Marvel movie full trailer, after teasing its debut with a new Captain Marvel poster yesterday. Following a blockbuster 10th anniversary year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018, the studio is returning in 2019 with three highly anticipated movies. While Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home will conclude Phase 3 and kick off Phase 4, respectively, Captain Marvel is an equally noteworthy installment of the MCU. It not only marks Brie Larson’s official introduction as Carol Danvers aka. Captain Marvel, it will also be Marvel Studios’ first movie solely headlined by a female character. Plus, it’ll be the first MCU film co-directed by a woman, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck at the helm.

Marvel Studios unveiled the first Captain Marvel movie trailer in September, which offered fans their first glimpse at Carol Danvers in action. Of course, the superhero’s arrival in the MCU was also teased earlier this year by the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene, in which Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) called Captain Marvel for help following Thanos completing his goal of wiping out half of all life in the universe. For the character’s first solo movie, Captain Marvel is set in the 90s, before the main MCU storyline kicked off with Iron Man. Now, Marvel fans can get even more insight into this period superhero movie with the latest Captain Marvel trailer.

Marvel Studios released the Captain Marvel movie full trailer today, revealing new footage from the upcoming blockbuster film. Check out the new Captain Marvel trailer below.

In addition to Larson, Captain Marvel introduces new characters including Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan) and a mysterious character played by Jude Law. Plus Captain Marvel sees the return of MCU favorites Nick Fury and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), as well as Guardians of the Galaxy’s Korath (Djimon Hounsou) and Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). For his part, Fury plays a big part of the new Captain Marvel trailer, seemingly becoming Carol’s key contact on Earth and helping her discover her true history.

The trailer also dives into explaining Skrulls, as well as the Kree-Skrull War, the comic book event around which Captain Marvel is set. But while there are scenes that seem to showcase the war being waged in space - and those effectively tease the visual spectacle fans can expect from the movie - much of the video focuses on Carol seeking out her real identity. However, the actual story of Captain Marvel is a little unclear, perhaps to keep certain elements of the plot under wraps and prevent spoilers. After all, Marvel won’t reveal Law’s character’s name, and may not until the movie hits theaters.

But while there’s plenty we don’t know about Captain Marvel, the latest trailer does work to offer more insight into what to expect from the Carol Danvers origin story. To get the full story, fans will have to catch Captain Marvel in theaters next year.
