Marvel Studios is ringing in the New Year with a new TV spot and motion poster for Captain Marvel, the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2019. Brie Larson will make her debut as Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel, a member of an elite Kree military team who ends up on Earth and realizes that she once had a life there.

Captain Marvel will be a pivotal character in the final stage of the MCU’s Phase Three. After appearing in her own solo movie, she will go on to join the MCU’s other superheroes in Avengers: Endgame. Though Thanos emerged triumphant in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel should balance the scales in the upcoming sequel, as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said that she’s “by far the strongest character we’ve ever had.”

Before Carol can help the Avengers, however, she first has to figure out who she really is. Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s, featuring younger versions of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, and based on the trailers it seems like the movie will stick closely to her comic book origins. In the new “Climb” TV spot below, we see Carol caught up in an explosion that looks a lot like the one that gifts her with Kree powers in the comics, including superhuman strength and durability.

On New Year’s Eve, Marvel also released a motion version of the official poster released earlier, in which Carol Danvers prepares to go “Higher, Further, Faster,” before showing off her Binary powers.

The Binary superpowers featured in the motion poster are where the claim of Captain Marvel being the MCU’s most powerful superhero yet really come from. While Carol will already be pretty strong when she first arrives on Earth, it seems that she’ll get a power upgrade later in the movie. The TV spot shows her flying through space and firing blasts of energy capable of destroying space ships. In the comics she was experimented on by an alien race called the Brood and gained the ability to generate energy blasts with power equivalent to a star.

Needless to say, a fully powered-up Captain Marvel will prove to be a valuable new ally for the Avengers. The arrival of Captain Marvel in theaters will bring an end to an uncharacteristically long wait between Marvel movies, as it’s already been almost six months since the release of Ant Man and the Wasp. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks like she’ll be landing with a bang.
