UPDATE: Here’s when we think the Captain Marvel trailer will release.

The first footage from Captain Marvel has been shown and Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers will soon be the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios is poised to kick off their 2019 slate in style by launching their first female-led franchise. Oscar-winner Larson is set to star as former Air Force pilot turned intergalactic hero Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Her arrival in theaters comes just before Avengers 4, but the movie will actually tell her origin during the 90s.

Fans are understandably anxious to get the first official look at the movie, but so far the only looks have come through set photos - only one of which was officially released. Several shots of Larson in the green Kree-version of the Captain Marvel suit have surfaced, however, there has yet to be an official look at her in any version of the costume. While Larson is still filming her solo movie, she’s already wrapped on Avengers 4. Well, a select group have seen footage from both of her upcoming appearances, and she’s just beginning.

THR confirmed that Disney revealed the first footage for Captain Marvel (and Avengers 4) during their presentation at CineEurope today. Descriptions of what was shown have yet to surface, but Kevin Feige introduced the footage. In doing so, he reportedly teased just how big of a role Carol is going to have moving forward by saying (according to Twitter user @mrbyrkin), “Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Just as has been the case with the rest of the footage studios have shown at CineEurope (ranging from Aquaman to Dark Phoenix), it isn’t expected that Captain Marvel’s trailer will be released immediately online. Hopefully that means a better description of what was shown will surface before too long so we can at least start to figure out what is in store. If that doesn’t happen, everyone will have to wait until the trailer debuts to see how Captain Marvel is shaping up. With Ant-Man and The Wasp right around the corner, though, it may not be too long before it comes.

Feige’s tease of Carol’s future, though, is a big deal. He’s already called her the most powerful person the MCU will ever have had once she’s introduced. It isn’t shocking that they have long-term plans for her, but to say that she’ll be the new face of the MCU is another level. That mantle has currently been held by Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans for the last decade, but should they both walk away, it looks like Larson is going to be the new major focus.

How exactly Captain Marvel becomes the new face of the MCU remains to be seen, but she’s well equipped to do so. She can be both a space traveling hero or one focused on protecting Earth. She has the ability then to crossover with just about any hero/franchise Marvel wants. Plus, with a young and talented star like Larson onboard, there’s no limit to how big of a star Captain Marvel can be.
