[This article contains a MILD SPOILER for Captain America: Civil War.]

-

Exact details on the plot of Captain America: Civil War continue to be kept under-wraps from anyone who hasn’t already been shown the film ahead of its bow in U.S. theaters. However, in the interest of stoking up fan furor, the film’s crew and cast members have been allowed to occasionally release a nugget or two of information. The same goes for the movie’s trailers, which have provided (among other things) a first look at Tom Holland as the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Civil War.

Since Sony let Spider-Man (Tom Holland) come out and play in the MCU, it’s likely been a challenge for the actors and production staff to keep details about his role in Civil War under their hats. As Captain America, Chris Evans will be dealing directly with the young wall-crawler - and in a recent interview, he touched on what happens when Steve Rogers and Peter Parker cross paths for the first time on the big screen.

Speaking with IGN (watch the video featured above), Evans first delved into Captain America’s motivations in Civil War. Evans said that the iconic superhero has always “defined himself based on allegiances: on his allegiance to a system, to a government, to an ideal.” After the events of Winter Soldier, Cap’s perspective changes, and he’s trying to “define himself…find himself a home.” Something the superhero found within the structure of the Avengers. And as his family, a rift in the team severs Cap’s newly found sense of balance. As Evans put it:

Evans is then asked about his tête-à-tête with Spidey in the film. He doesn’t put too much on the table, but he does discuss their association briefly:

“[The falling out amongst Avengers] cuts him to his core, which is why Bucky becomes such a huge driving force behind his motivations. He’s looking for something to call home.”

“Well, I don’t want to give too much away…but it’s brief. I really love the scene we have together, it’s a little brief, a little wink, a little nod. It’s nice and I think Tom is phenomenal.”

The minor SPOILER regarding said Captain America/Spider-Man Civil War scene actually comes from via CBM. In the article, the writer acknowledges the fun superhero sequence, adding a little piece of the puzzle, setting-wise. Apparently, the good Captain and Spider-Man share what is described as a “cool, Queens/Brooklyn moment.”

Although little has been formally revealed about Spider-Man’s entrance to the MCU or his upcoming standalone film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, all common sense says it will be based in the web-slinger’s home, in New York City. This means that, at least briefly, New York will play a role in Civil War too. Of course, if the film follows the comic book – and Spidey eventually sides with Cap – their moment could be part of the falling action. After the main brouhaha, which could take place in NYC, the pair could part ways amiably. Or, Cap could help Spider-Man get back to the city, setting up his Homecoming storyline.

Captain America: Civil War will release on May 6, 2016, followed by Doctor Strange– November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man: Homecoming – July 7, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; Black Panther – February 16, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019; Inhumans – July 12, 2019; and as-yet untitled Marvel movies on May 1, July 10 and November 6, 2020.
