Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise, is set to potentially be in the spotlight very soon in the lead-up to E3. The subject of many a leak from YouTubers and media alike, and playable since April this year, it looks like Activision could be trying to take some control of the press cycle back by going on a social media blackout and changing the logo and cover art to blank placeholders. The company is gearing up for something important very soon, and a May 30 Call of Duty announcement could very well be it.

While most of Activision’s marketing attention appears to have been recently focused on Call of Duty: Mobile and its launch in the United States and Europe, the distinct social media blackout across the board on their next annual AAA release could bode well for an upcoming Call of Duty announcement. Considering how much the public already currently knows about the new soft reboot, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, waiting until E3 for a big PR reveal may have been too behind the curve for Activision.

It has been reported by Culture of Gaming that there is going to be a Call of Duty announcement this week on May 30. While there has yet to be official confirmation on what exactly is going to be announced, whether it’s a release date or simply more information about the title itself, this is the date to take note of. We’ve reached out to Activision for comment.

While the public already knows a bit about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the Call of Duty announcement on May 30 finally confirming a release date, title, and its core pillars (we know it includes a campaign and a battle royale for instance) is likely. While a lot of information has been leaked and confirmed by various media outlets in terms of voracity, Activision has been tight-lipped by contrast in any official capacity. There has still been no confirmation yet about key features like the game’s multiplayer, how exactly it plans to draw from its predecessor in name, let alone what specifically will be shown at E3 in the coming weeks.

After the lackluster response of fans to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 which saw a relatively quick drop-off in interest (Blackout mode is dead on PC) and its various microtransaction and social media woes, the community is hoping that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be a pivot in the right direction and offer an upgrade in visuals and mechanics. Judging by their previous big-ticket Call of Duty announcement being the pre-E3 reveal of Black Ops 4 last year, a similar announcement on May 30 looks to match with that timeframe, and is very likely until Activision confirms otherwise.
