For those who are eagerly awaiting the big reveal of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, there is a treat ahead of schedule as the game’s box art leaks early.
There has been much hype surrounding the game, with various rumors of Fornite-esque Battle Royale mode and even Treyarch doing away completely with single-player story thanks to it simply not being ready in time. Either way, there are plenty of fans old and new who are talking about Black Ops 4, which will only get bigger after the title’s unveiling.
While most people are still in the dark, gamers now have an early peek at a potential cover for the game. CharlieINTEL spotted the artwork and shared it via Twitter.
Featuring three grizzly characters that look like they have been plucked from James Cameron’s Aliens, Black Ops 4 looks suitably gritty to reinvent the long-running franchise once again. Whether or not these characters are just an artistic rendition or will be playable in Black Ops 4 remains to be seen, but note the character at the front. Wearing some sort of exo-suit, the lead again links to earlier rumors that jetpacks will be involved in Black Ops 4.
For now, the setting for Black Ops 4 is still a mystery, although reports suggest that it won’t be as far into the future as 2015’s Black Ops 3. That being said, the three characters on the box look particularly post-apocalyptic, leaning towards the idea it will be set around the time of its predecessor. While the art could be accused of just be a well-fashioned Photoshop job, it seems legitimate after an advert went up early on IGN. This is great news when considering that the box art certainly looks the part for the fourth game in Activision’s spinoff subseries.
Although Black Ops 3 sold well, it was criticized for a lack of innovation and two-dimensional characters, so can the sequel do any better? With the ever-popular zombie mode already confirmed for Black Ops 4, let’s hope the game can avoid the mistakes of some recent Call of Duty games and live up to everyone’s expectations. Activision is doing a huge reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at event 10 AM PT, so there isn’t long to wait until all will become clear.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12, 2018.
