The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine celebrated the series’ renewal with a special video released during their San Diego Comic-Con 2018 panel. Fox cancelled Brooklyn Nine-Nine back in May after five seasons. The show’s cancellation was met with a great deal of disappointment from fans, who quickly rallied to Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s cause in hopes that another network or streaming service would revive the series.
In the days following the show’s cancellation at Fox, NBC picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine for season 6, effectively saving the day. Although individual cast members had announced that the show had been picked up by NBC, the whole cast had yet to address it together - that is, until Comic-Con. Brooklyn Nine-Nine held their panel on the evening of the first day of the annual convention, where the cast assembled and helped debut a fun new video thanking their fans.

The video was posted to the series’ new verified Twitter (recently created by NBC for the show’s network transfer), bearing the title: A special announcement: We’re back in the Nine-Nine. The video was captioned,“A special message from the 99th precinct.” It’s already been viewed over 100,000 times in just over 12 hours. The video cleverly begins with Captain Holt stating that he “is being transferred” - a clip from the actual show. We then see a montage of other clips from the series, all of them dealing with cancellations and firings. After Holt’s initial announcement of the transfer and the montage of cancellations, Holt announces, “Good news. I’m back.” The theme song begins to play, and he is met with applause from the whole squad - and likely the whole fan base, too. Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) then bellows, “I’m staying at the Nine-Nine!” The minute-long video is funny, to-the-point, and uses only in-show content. Take a look below:
The show’s co-creator Dan Goor further thanked fans on his own personal Twitter, tweeting after the Brooklyn Nine-Nine Comic-Con panel: “Comic-con was amazing. No offense to anyone else, but [Brooklyn Nine-Nine] has the best fans in history.” Although the show was cancelled due to low ratings and viewership, its fans all seem to be pretty “die-hard” - much to the delight of John McClane superfan, Jake Peralta.
Back in May, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was subjected to the same woes as Arrested Development was in 2006. Notably, Arrested Development also started off as a Fox exclusive. Despite unanimous critical acclaim, both shows received a very low viewership. Netflix’s resurrection of Arrested Development has garnered the series a substantially higher profile since 2011 (though it’s unclear how many viewers it attracts because Netflix doesn’t release those numbers), and NBC will likely achieve the same with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Considering the outcry from fans following its cancellation, more folks might know about Brooklyn Nine-Nine and tune in to see what all the fuss was about.
Season 6 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to air on NBC during the 2018-2019 mid-season. The cast are quite clearly excited, and the fans should be, too.
