A new character trailer introduces Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan, as Dragon Ball FighterZ’s first DLC character. Fans have been waiting for the official trailer since Bardock and Broly were revealed to be on their way to FighterZ in an issue of V-Jump. The two will be part of an eight-character DLC pass.
Developed by Arc System Works and released in January, the 2.5D fighting game has been a huge hit for Bandai Namco, having already received glowing reviews from numerous publications. Dragon Ball FighterZ’s gameplay mechanics are inspired by the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise, allowing players to engage in 3 vs. 3 tag battles. Unlike past Dragon Ball games that generally follow the story of the anime series, FighterZ features an original story and an all-new character, Android 21. Players can duke it out using a roster of 24 characters, including Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Beerus, and Hit.
After weeks of teasing fans, Bandai Namco has released a character trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ which showcases the moves of Broly, the game’s first DLC character. Broly rushes onto the stage and bombards his opponent with a series of brutal attacks. Broly also utilizes throwing techniques in a way that may remind players of Android 16, a brawler-type fighter who focuses on close combat rather than long range energy attacks. At the end of the trailer, Broly unleashes his Super Special Attack, “Gigantic Meteor,” an enormous ball of energy that crashes into the ground. Fans of the villain know that the move is capable of destroying entire planets.
Not only will Broly be FighterZ’s first DLC character, but Broly will also be the first fighter who is exclusive to the Dragon Ball movies. Broly never appeared in the anime series. Until Broly’s inclusion was revealed, fans had wondered if movie characters were off-limits. Broly debuted in the film Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan as a murderous Saiyan with unbelievable power. Broly tracked down Goku with the intention of killing him, and nearly succeeded.
It took the combined efforts of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Future Trunks, and Piccolo to finally defeat him. Broly’s popularity led him to returning as the main villain in two other movies, Broly: Second Coming and Bio-Broly. The character is the only Dragon Ball villain to appear in three films.
