Director Denis Villeneuve has built up an incredible track record in recent years by delivering intense and thoughtful films. Prisoners was a true debut for the director as it got an Oscar nomination for cinematography, and yet both Sicario and the recently released Arrival have been able to rival the critical success. It is through his continued level of great work that he has next decided to tackle the long awaited Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2049.

Villeneuve will have his work cut out for him to top the original in the minds of many, since it is remembered as one of the best sci-fi films of all time, but that does not mean it will be impossible. While it is best to wait until the final product is complete before making those comparisons, it appears fans will be able to see how Villenueve’s take stacks up since the trailer will be released soon.

Trailer Track has revealed that the first trailer for Blade Runner 2049 has been rated to the duration of 1 minute and 38 seconds. It is classified as the first trailer and not strictly a teaser, although the length would seem to indicate it being the other way around. The report could not definitively state when the trailer will be arriving, but they theorize that next week seems likely so it can be attached to fellow space adventure Passengers.

A trailer being released next week would give the marketing department nearly 10 months to get audiences reintroduced to this world that Ridley Scott originally built. Even with Harrison Ford returning as Rick Deckard, he is not scheduled to be the star, with that duty turning to Ryan Gosling instead. Gosling and Ford have the benefit of a talented ensemble around them as well with the likes of Jared Leto (Suicide Squad), Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), and more set to appear.

Even with the large cast, very little regarding the film’s plot has been made public so far, which is surely just how Villeneuve likes it. He has a knack for pulling the seat out from under his audiences and to leave them wondering what exactly they saw, so it will be interesting to see if he tries to do something similar in an established franchise. If he does, the one reveal he may not include is whether or not Deckard is a replicant. Regardless, the upcoming first trailer should help give a better indication as to what Villenueve’s vision is, and hopefully will be a sequel worth the wait.
