Marvel Studios kicked off Phase 3 in a big way thanks to Captain America: Civil War, bringing together many of the previously established heroes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As great as it was to see the heroes battling it out, the fight also featured two new heroes. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) stole the show. This is exactly why Marvel has already announced solo films for both with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther.

While both Spider-Man and Black Panther will bring multiple new villains into the Marvel fray, the latter will bring back at least one familiar villainous face. Andy Serkis made his debut as Ulysses Klaue in a small role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and he is finally set to return in Black Panther. With production already underway, the first set photos of him have surfaced.

Atlanta Filming on Twitter has posted a new photo from Black Panther that reveals the first look at Serkis on set. Thanks to the amount of people around him, there is only so much to pull from the photo itself, outside of Klaue wearing what appears to be some sort of security outfit. However, one more interesting detail revealed by the photographer was Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger) also being involved in the scene – though he is just out of frame for this particular photo.

So I took some great shots of #AndySerkis filming #BlackPanther… haven’t seen them yet. Here is one not-so-great to hold you over. pic.twitter.com/0YlYfNqRTS— Atlanta Filming (@AtlantaFilming) February 8, 2017

@AtlantaFilming Oh yeah…see that red umbrella. Behind that (and a blue umbrella and a cloak and behind a bunch of angry people) is Michael— Atlanta Filming (@AtlantaFilming) February 8, 2017

The fact that Serkis and Jordan are filming scenes together seems to confirm their characters’ interaction in the film. Fellow cast member Lupita Nyong’o mentioned over the summer that the plot would revolve around two villains threatening T’Challa’s throne; it was speculated that Klaue and Killmonger would be those two would-be usurpers. Such speculation has matched up with details from the official synopsis.

With more set photos likely to be made public throughout production, future images may help piece together how the two villains plan to work together. Unfortunately, the photo does not provide a look at Klaue’s severed arm. In the comics, Klaue eventually attaches a sonic blaster to his arm, but we will have to wait and see whether or not Marvel and director Ryan Coogler plan to adapt that as well. If so, it would certainly go a long way in making the character far more formidable an opponent than he wound up being the first time around.
