Black Panther continues its rise up the all-time charts, passing the domestic totals of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Dark Knight over the weekend. By now, much has been said about the film’s box office success, which surpassed even the rosiest expectations when it premiered about a month ago. Black Panther’s shattering of the February opening weekend record was just the start of an impressive run that saw it rewrite the history books, setting numerous new marks as it took advantage of word-of-mouth and minimal competition.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a film with legs this strong. A single movie hasn’t maintained the #1 position on the box office charts for four consecutive weekends since The Force Awakens, giving people an idea of the exclusive company Panther is in. With fellow Disney release A Wrinkle in Time earning a mixed response (hurting its commercial appeal), Black Panther had a golden opportunity to pad its already hefty total, and it’s now passed some noteworthy blockbusters in the States.

According to Box Office Mojo, Black Panther earned $41.1 million in its fourth weekend, raising its haul to a whopping $562 million. With this, the movie is now well ahead of both Rogue One ($532.1 million) and The Dark Knight ($534.8 million) on the all-time domestic chart. It currently ranks seventh and now has Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($619.4 million) in its sights. Black Panther is also just $61.3 million away from besting The Avengers and becoming the MCU’s highest-grossing installment.

With Black Panther still dominating, A Wrinkle in Time had an uphill climb and came in second place in its opening weekend. The fantasy film made $33.3 million in its first three days, which was in line with the projections. Many had high hopes for Wrinkle, but the end result was a well-intentioned misfire. Critics praised director Ava DuVernay’s ambition and the visuals, but found fault with a simplistic and clunky story that didn’t fully work. On the other hand, Panther received near-universal acclaim as one of Marvel’s best efforts yet, making it a more attractive proposition for viewers - even this deep into its run. Unfortunately for Wrinkle, it’s in the company of Tomorrowland, which opened with $33 million back in 2015. It has a long way to go to break even, and likely won’t be very profitable for the Mouse House.

Rounding out the top five this weekend were The Strangers: Prey At Night ($10.4 million), Red Sparrow ($8.1 million), and Game Night ($7.9 million). A pair of new arrivals really struggled to find an audience, as Hurricane Heist pulled in $3.1 million to come in eighth, while dark comedy Gringo finished in eleventh with $2.6 million. Neither was much of a critical darling, meaning they hit screens with little, if any, fanfare. As for Panther, its next challenger is the Tomb Raider reboot, which opens on Friday.
