Billions season 4 is on its way early in 2019, but Showtime already has a brief first look at what’s to come in a brief but tantalizing teaser trailer. After season 3 solved the series’ problem (for the time being, anyway) of what to do about the great Axe and Chuck standoff, season 4 looks to take that a step further, putting the two into a strained alliance that will see Chuck making a play for the governorship of New York, while Axe goes after Taylor, in the wake of their move against him late in season 3.

Over the past three seasons, the series has become one of the most talked about of Showtime’s original offerings. That’s due in part to it’s willing ness to be outrageous and yet back it up with some really great performances from leads Damian Lewis, Paul Giamatti, and Maggie Siff. But let’s not forget the show’s deep bench of supporting players, like Mike ‘Wags’ Wagner (David Costible), ‘Dollar’ Bill Stern (Kelly AuCoin), Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillion), and, of course, the man who’s not afraid to show viewers everything he’s got, Chuck Rhoades Sr. (Jeffrey DeMunn).

One of the reasons the show is able to attract such a talented cast is the crackling dialogue, much of which is overseen by series creators and showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, guys who know a thing or two about writing fun, fast-paced dialogue with a lot of pop-culture references. The result is a snappy series that makes watching not-so-great people do bad things a lot of fun, without necessarily glamorizing their various malfeasances. Check out the teaser for the new season and a complete synopsis below:

Billions is pound for pound the most entertaining show on Showtime at the moment, and it’s also one of the most consistently entertaining shows on television period. So far, each season has surpassed the one that came before, and it looks as though the trend is going to continue in season 4.

“When everyone is out for revenge, no one is safe. This is never more true than in season four of BILLIONS. Bobby Axelrod (Lewis) and Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti), former enemies, and Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), the chief counselor to each, have come together to form an uneasy but highly effective alliance, aimed at the eradication of all their rivals, including Grigor Andolov (guest star John Malkovich), Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), Brian Connerty (Toby Leonard Moore) and Waylon “Jock” Jeffcoat (guest star Clancy Brown). Ambition and betrayal have long been at the heart of BILLIONS, and this season all the characters find out exactly how high a price they’ll have to pay to satisfy those needs. The series also stars David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin, Jeffrey DeMunn and Malin Akerman, along with new guest stars Samantha Mathis, Kevin Pollak, Jade Eshete and Nina Arianda.”
