Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates is set to guest star on CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory during season 11. The 62-year-old tech titan is of course one of the world’s richest men, with an estimated net worth of over $80 billion. He’d actually be much richer at this point, were it not for Gates opting to frequently donate large portions of his vast wealth to charitable causes, and operate his own charities alongside wife Melinda.
According to Deadline, Bill Gates will guest star as himself in an episode of The Big Bang Theory season 11 that will air in March. Penny (Kaley Cuoco) - who works as a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company - will host Gates at her place of employment, which leads to shenanigans when Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj pull out all the stops in an effort to meet their billionaire idol.
As one might imagine considering The Big Bang Theory’s long-term success, the CBS series has played host to many notable guest stars over the years, with Bill Gates serving as only the latest big name to add to the long list. One of the most famous among fans is renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, who has befriended Sheldon, but still often takes shots at his lack of social awareness. Sci-fi stalwart Wil Wheaton is also a recurring presence on TBBT. Some other big geeky names so far have included Bob Newhart, LeVar Burton, Stan Lee, Elon Musk, and Adam West.
While The Big Bang Theory is still a ratings darling, fans should begin preparing to say goodbye not too long from now, as all signs are pointing to season 12 being the comedy’s last hurrah. If that does indeed end up being it for Big Bang though, it’ll go out after a run of sustained popularity that most shows could only dream of achieving, regardless of what the series’ most vocal detractors might contend about its quality.
