Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and some very big creatures are at the center of a new one-minute trailer for upcoming action adventure Rampage. Following the disappointing returns of the summer box office bomb Baywatch, Johnson is back on top of the box office with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a sequel to the 1995 adventure comedy classic Jumanji starring Robin Williams. Since its December 20 release at the box office, the film has defied all expectations and knocked Star Wars: The Last Jedi off its domestic box office perch at the New Year’s Day box office, and has assumed the No. 1 position ever since.

It’s pretty safe to say that Johnson, who also starred in the worldwide blockbuster The Fate of the Furious last April, isn’t about to take his foot off the gas pedal anytime soon, and he’s already revving the box office engine for Rampage, which is set for an April 20 release. Following the debut of the first trailer for the film in November, Johnson is back in action with more footage from the movie, highlighting more of the mutated zoo animals based on the classic 1980s video arcade game.

Released online by the production Sunday, the new one-minute spot rehashes the first theatrical trailer, where the green mist from mysterious projectile turns primatologist Davis Oyoke’s  (Johnson) white gorilla buddy George, a 7-foot, 500-pound creature, into a 9-foot, 1,000-pound behemoth overnight. The problem is, George’s mutation is only beginning, as is the unpredictable growth and ferocity of other creatures in a preservation facility including Ralph the wolf and Lizzie the crocodile, thanks to a process known as “genetic editing.”

The new trailer Sunday features a quick shot of a young George, as well as more of the havoc the creatures wreak upon Chicago, including shot of Ralph having a wingspan (“Of course the wolf can fly,” Davis deadpans). Also included in the trailer is more footage of Davis and Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) and bad guy Agent Russell (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and a military jet flying over outstretched jaws of Lizzie. Johnson also gets to put his muscle into a quick funny scene, where he’s choking out a soldier, saying, “That’s a big arm, don’t fight it.”

The tweet that the production sent out Sunday simply said, “On April 20, BIG MEETS BIGGER,” and judging by the new footage, they’re not kidding. Directed by Johnson’s San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island helmer, Brad Peyton, the filmmaker and his frequent collaborator are clearly pulling out all the stops for what promises to be the first big smash of the 2018 summer movie season. Sunday’s look at Rampage is wildly entertaining, and the great thing is, any upcoming footage from the film is bound to mutate into something even bigger.
