Ejection isn’t a huge part of the Big Brother reality competition series, but it has happened before. What is ejection? Also known as expulsion, it’s when a contestant does something so vile or inappropriate, or doesn’t follow the agreed upon rules, that producers call them into the Diary Room, and walk them coolly out the door, advising them that they can no longer participate in the game.

In every country that Big Brother appears, at least one person has been ejected from the game at one point or another, with the exception of Big Brother Canada. In the U.S., there have been four ejections to date for reasons ranging from inappropriate comments relating to race or sexual orientation, to outright violence.

But the producers make the call, and even though only four people have officially been ejected from the U.S. version of the series, many fans, especially those who watch the live feeds, have called for the eviction of plenty others.

Here are 5 people who have been evicted from the series thus far (including one from the celebrity edition in the U.K.) and 5 who viewers wanted to see ejected, but never got their wish (including one from the current season.)

Justin Sebik (Season 2): Ejected

The first person ever to be evicted from the U.S. version of the series, Sebik was expelled for a very viable reason: he held a knife up to another contestant’s neck and threatened her, as well as others with physical violence. Both were under the influence of alcohol, but that doesn’t really matter.

He was the youngest contestant on the series at just 26, and because of his ejection from the game, he was not able to participate in the final vote. Interestingly, however, he is the only expelled guest thus far to still be interviewed by host Julie Chen after the fact. He claimed to have just been joking, but it didn’t matter. He was out.

Jack Matthews (Season 21): Fans Want Ejected

In the latest season of the series, Matthews has been ruffling feathers, both in the house and with viewers. While his arrogant and crass nature is purely evident during the broadcast episodes of the series, apparently there’s a lot more viewers don’t see in the subscription-based live feeds that paint an even worst picture of his character.

So much negativity, in fact, that fans of the show have created a petition to have him ejected from the house. They cite various racist remarks he has made against minorities in the house as well as his aggressive nature towards women.

The petition has been going strong since the series began, but producers have yet to find a reason they feel worthy enough to justify his removal from the game.

Scott Weintraub (Season 4): Ejected

Two seasons after Sebik was ejected, the second American contestant was pulled from the game. On day eight, Weintraub didn’t take well to that season’s X-Factor twist, which saw ex-lovers of contestants join the game.

Weintraub’s ex Amanda walked into the house, and it went downhill from there. He lashed out at her, threw chairs, and was made to leave the game.

He became the first houseguest never to have competed in a Head of Household competition, having chosen to sit out of the first one since there was an odd number of players.

JC Mounduix (Season 2): Fans Wanted Ejected

Standing out among houseguests for his small stature mixed with his big personality, Mounduix got along well with others in the house, though he could sometimes go too far. And fans saw that, particularly in the live feeds, replying with their desire for producers to eject him from the game.

There was uproar online, particularly from viewers who were angered with Mounduix’s sexual advances toward a straight man who was sleeping at the time. He was also seen in the live feeds running around with an ice cream scooper, using it to stimulate houseguests’ genitals.

Producers reportedly spoke to many of the houseguests and since none expressed discomfort with the behaviour to the point of warranting expulsion, Mounduix got to stay. He ended up placing third, becoming the ninth and final member of the jury.

Chima Simone (Season 11): Ejected

While Chima didn’t get violent like some of the other evictees, she did blatantly violate rules of the show, which led to her ejection from the game.

After her HoH reign was deemed useless when fellow houseguest Jeff Schroeder used his special Coup d’Etat power to replace her nominees for eviction with his own, she lost it.

Accusing producers of manipulating the game, the last straw was when she took her mic pack off, which houseguests are required to wear at all times, and threw it in a pool. While she is the only expelled houseguest to last through most of the game – she left on day 42 - she was not allowed to join the jury and cast a vote for the winner.

Christine Brecht (Season 16): Fans Wanted Ejected

Things were so bad for Brecht that while she didn’t get ejected from the game, she actually got booed by the live audience when she was evicted and sat down for her interview with Julie Chen.

It didn’t really have anything to do with her game play, so to speak, but more her apparent lack of morals. While she entered the house a supposedly happily married woman, she spent a lot of time cozying up to fellow player Cody. Whether it went further than seemingly innocent flirting didn’t matter. Audiences didn’t like what they saw, and they wanted her out because of it.

Willie Hantz (Season 14): Ejected

Brother of another notorious reality series villain Russell Hantz, who competed multiple times on Survivor, Hantz lasted 14 days before his temper got the best of him and producers took him out of the game.

First, he threw pork rinds at fellow contestant and housemate Janelle Pierzina. Then he went on a tirade, calling people nasty names. After exchanging some words with Joe Arvin, and trying to get him to throw a punch, Hantz decided to make the first move and turn things into a physical altercation. That was enough to have producers make him pack his bags and walk out the door.

Frank Eudy Seasons 14, 18): Fans Wanted Ejected

Having played in both Big Brother 14 and 18, Eudy was both a fan favourite and rubbed people the wrong way. He got called out inside of the house for his treatment towards women, and rude comments about females, like referencing his “15 pound rule” suggesting that if a girlfriend gains more than 15 pounds, he would dump her. He even at one point apparently slapped another female contestant’s stomach and said she was “getting chubby,” and pointed at another girl’s nipples, visible through her shirt, and called them “disgusting.”

None of this, of course, aired on the live show but the exchanges were in the 24/7 live feeds, and bloggers reported on them through social media.

Tila Tequila (Celebrity Season 16, U.K. version): Ejected

This social media personality appeared on the celebrity edition of the reality competition series in the U.K. Already a somewhat controversial figure, she was ejected from the game.

It had nothing to do with anything she did in the house, though. Rather, it was for reportedly making anti-semitic and white nationalist remarks several years prior to entering the house.

Fans called for her eviction, and producers agreed. She only lasted two days and placed 14th.

Aaryn Gries (Season 15): Fans Wanted Ejected

The seemingly sweet and innocent blonde bombshell soon began to show a much darker side of herself as the season went on. Consistently making remarks that were considered racist and homophobic, fans continuously lobbied to have her thrown out of the game. She was given the nickname “Aaryn the Aryan” and a petition to have her expelled garnered more than 27,000 digital signatures.

While producers didn’t expel her, they did decide to air many of her comments on the broadcast segments of the show. This meant every Big Brother fan not only read about them from bloggers who subscribe to the live feeds but saw them in full colour.

Still, she lasted 70 days, placing eighth and becoming the fourth member of the jury. Upon her eviction, however, host Julie Chen, who is of Asian descent (one of many races Gries had targeted in her remarks) did not let her get off easy. After being booed by the live audience, much to Gries’ surprise, Chen read back some of her questionable comments asking her to answer for them. Gries also reportedly lost her job following the controversy.
