Deadpool’s massive success is prompting studios everywhere to rethink concepts for superhero movies that they previously believed to be risky. Already, plans for films like Lobo are moving forward, while other in-universe spin-offs at 20th Century Fox, such as New Mutants, are currently in the works. Ryan Reynolds is set to return as Deadpool in a now-confirmed sequel, but when it comes to which characters are returning and which are being introduced to the universe, news has been pretty quiet.

Former Disney stars tend to take on projects later in life that help break the squeaky-clean mold the company creates around its child stars. So, for fans of both Deadpool and Bella Thorne (who starred in Disney’s Shake It Up! from 2012 to 2013), that mold-breaking moment might come in the form of a big screen interpretation of Lady Deadpool - if Thorne has anything to say about it, at least.

Recently, Thorne sat down with Moviefone to talk about her role in the upcoming Ratchet & Clank film, expressing her interest in both superhero movies and alternative roles. “I’d be so down to play like a badass Marvel character,” said the actress. “Any type of badass female in live-action, like Cora is in this movie. I also like playing roles that are very rebellious and real. So it’s good when you really show teenagers for how they actually act and how they actually talk.” When asked for specifics, Thorne immediately responded: “Honestly, if I could just play a female version of Deadpool - any character that’s a female version of Deadpool - I’m so down!”

At the moment, details on the inclusion of other characters that are part of Deadpool’s long line of comics – outside of Cable, who will be joining the Merc for his second film – are slim to none. Tim Miller will return as director for the next film, which is being written by returning screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Of course, Thorne might not be aware of the fact that there is already a female version of Deadpool - Wanda Wilson of Earth-3010, a.k.a. Lady Deadpool - who is part of the Merc with a Mouth’s rag-tag “family” of multi-dimensional bloodthirsty mercenaries. Wanda is Wade Wilson from an alternate universe, and while the mercs are equally wacky at times, her dark past and inner demons have made for a few incredible storylines.

Also available in the “-pool” family is Gwenpool, a wackadoodle spin-off of Spider-Gwen who is not, in fact, Gwen Stacy, but rather Gwen Poole, a girl transported into the Marvel Comics universe who is currently living it up through the pages of her new comic. Either way, Thorne’s interest shows that she’s looking to expand her current roles in teen dramas and comedies into something new and more expansive, which is a really interesting concept for a rising star to take on.
