X-Men: Dark Phoenix writer/director Simon Kinberg says that female X-Men characters are the main focus in his adaptation of Chris Claremont’s acclaimed comic book storyline, The Dark Phoenix Saga. Dark Phoenix is the studio’s second shot at bringing Claremont and Josh Byrne’s acclaimed 1980 comic story arc to life on the big screen. However, given how director Brett Ratner handled the story in X-Men: The Last Stand, the hope is that Kinberg - who wrote The Last Stand, but was forced to reduce the Dark Phoenix story thread to a subplot in his script - will do much better, now that he’s calling the shots and has more creative control over the final product....

Superhero films are still ruling the modern world of cinema, courtesy of the MCU, the DCEU, and other, non-related movies. Despite their prevalence, there is a surprisingly small number of recent superhero flicks focused on less than heroic characters. Let’s just check it out - Suicide Squad from 2016, Joker from 2019, and… That’s pretty much it unless you decide to count Deadpool among the villains, even though he’s a clear antihero....

Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier (The Night Manager), who directed Netflix’s newest horror-thriller Bird Box, has spoken out about altering the ending of the book. Following its release, the movie has been receiving mixed reactions from viewers, but has become a viral sensation. The post-apocalyptic film is based on Josh Malerman’s 2014 debut novel of the same name. In the film adaptation, supernatural entities are driving members of society to commit suicide by taking the shape of their worst fears or regrets....

Steven Spielberg is producing a Leonard Bernstein movie biopic that Bradley Cooper will headline and direct. Cooper will also write the script for Bernstein - as the project is currently titled - based on an earlier draft by Spotlight cowriter Josh Singer (who also worked on Spielberg’s own true story journalism drama, The Post). Paramount Pictures and Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment are financing the project, which Cooper will further produce alongside big names like Martin Scorsese....
