DC Comics announced that the company is canceling all of its comic book convention appearances through the end of March 2020, due to the spread of the Coronavirus in the United States. This announcement came hot on the heels of the company canceling the New York City premiere of their latest animated film, Superman: Red Son, earlier in the week over the same concerns. The past few weeks have been full of turmoil for DC Comics....
Superman actor Henry Cavill says that his next DCEU appearance won’t spend much time explaining Clark Kent’s resurrection. Going into the recent theatrical release of latest DCEU entry Justice League, fans were never in doubt that Superman would return, despite having sacrificed his life to defeat Doomsday at the end of 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros.’ marketing was at least nice enough to keep him off the posters and out of the trailers leading up to release day, but even the most casual of DC movie fans knew full well that there would be no Justice League for long without Superman to lead it....
The late, great Prince once appeared in his very own comic miniseries called Prince: Alter Ego. Tim Burton’s Batman was a massive event back in 1989 with the movie being advertised everywhere. Burton’s regular composer Danny Elfman (Beetlejuice) scored the movie, with his theme becoming synonymous with the franchise, and it was later used in Batman: The Animated Series. Prince was also a fan of the Batman character and once taught himself to play the theme song to the 1960’s Adam West TV series....
Springing from the success of Arrow and The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will unite a slew of second-string heroes (and a few villains) from those previous series into one legendary team. They aren’t quite the Justice League, but they’re certainly the closest The CW can come without stepping on DC and Warner Bros’ bigger plans (read: the DCEU). This week both Arrow and The Flash continued playing their part in setting up Legends, featuring the origins of Hawkman and Hawkgirl as well as introducing the villainous immortal, Vandal Savage....
DC’s non-DCEU movie label will kick off with the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie and could end up being called DC Dark or DC Black, according to a new report. The idea behind starting up a DC film sub-franchise is that it will allow room for directors to come in and make one-off DC movies that aren’t beholden to the continuity of the larger DC cinematic universe. Much like DC’s Elseworlds imprint does for the company’s comic book division, DC Dark/Black would (in theory) open the door to more experimenting with the DC movie brand and its characters....
Deadpool and Cable reenact the Creation of Adam in the new banner for the upcoming sequel Deadpool 2, as was posted online by Ryan Reynolds. Christmas came early this morning for Deadpool fans, but it wasn’t Ol’ Saint Nick who left a gift under their trees. It was Deadpool himself, actor/producer Ryan Reynolds, who delivered the goods on the same morning that Disney finalized a deal with Fox that gives the Mouse House control over the X-Men franchise rights....

Unlike this year’s other Marvel offering, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange is very much a standalone film, but given that it exists within a larger universe, fans are constantly looking for connections and references. Netflix’s post-apocalyptic horror/thriller Bird Box almost included a scene that showed the creatures. A new Birds of Prey movie rumor indicates Warner Bros. has certain actresses in mind to play Black Canary and Huntress in the female team-up.
