Italian filmmaker Ruggero Deodato’s 1980 horror/exploitation movie Cannibal Holocaust is the first proper found-footage movie, as far as most film historians are concerned. Still, there’s no denying that it was 1999’s The Blair Witch Project that catapulted the genre and its techniques into becoming something that your everyday moviegoer would be familiar with and recognize as, well, an actual genre (complete with its own narrative and character tropes) instead of just a stylistic flourish used to make a movie seem more “realistic”....

Fans of IGA’s formative side-scrolling series Castlevania are in for a treat with the retro throwback Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, originally planned as a stretch goal reward for the close-to-release Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. While IGA’s Kickstarter blew the doors off with a $5.5 million pledge peak, a late-stage stretch goal spoke to a planned “Prequel mini-game for PC/Consoles.” “Mini-game” might be a misnomer, though; this is an old-school Castlevania-length pixelated action-platformer with considerable depth....

star Brandon Routh had misgivings about playing Superman again, this time for the Arrowverse’s upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Routh has played the hero one time before, in 2006’s Superman Returns. Though the film disappointed at the box office, some critics praised Routh’s performance. Years after playing Superman, Routh joined the cast of Arrow as the Atom/Ray Palmer in 2014. He then moved to Legends of Tomorrow when it premiered two years later, becoming one of many Arrowverse characters to head to the Waverider....

Paramount brought the Transformers movies to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time this year and used its Hall H panel to highlight this December’s spinoff, Bumblebee. The first live-action Transformers film not directed by Michael Bay, Bee’s solo adventure goes back in time to 1987 and follows the Autobot as he carries out a top-secret mission for his leader, Optimus Prime, on earth. Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld costars in the movie as Charlie, a teenaged mechanic who finds Bumblebee (in disguise as a yellow VW bug) in a junkyard and helps the alien robot on his “special job”....

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, offering a glimpse at the upcoming sequel to Colin Trevorrow’s record-breaking 2015 film, Jurassic World. A Monster Calls helmer J.A. Bayona took over directing duties for the sequel, with Trevorrow returning as Fallen Kingdom’s screenwriter, and the duo are looking to expand the Jurassic Park franchise while potentially laying the groundwork for another Jurassic World film (and sixth Jurassic movie overall)....

Chris Hemsworth wants the Men In Black reboot to be “epic and fun” like the previous movies. The Men In Black franchise kicked off with the 1997 original, which paired Will Smith’s rookie alien hunter with Tommy Lee Jones’ stoic vet. The strong chemistry between the pair and the movie’s mix of comedy and gooey horror made it a blockbuster, though the series struggled with sequels. Men In Black II took a few years to develop, but lacked the comic flair and invention of the original, despite reuniting the same cast and crew....

Matt Reeves’ 2008 sci-fi horror, Cloverfield, is widely regarded as an excellent creature feature and found footage movie, but its monster - and style - is most perfectly suited for Lovecraftian horror. With a story by Drew Goddard, Cloverfield played on audiences’ fears of a monster invasion much in the same way that Godzilla movies have done in the past. While the creature feature is nothing new, there’s a particular sub-set for alien and creature invasions, because it highlights just how vast the universe is and how much humans don’t know about....

A nightmarish new teaser for Fox’s New Mutants promises to face Samuel Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball (Charlie Heaton) with his greatest fear. Described as “a haunted house movie,” New Mutants is set to be unlike any other superhero film to date. Fox intends to launch a trilogy of superhero horror films, each one facing teenage mutants against terrifying threats, and the latest teaser has suggested just how personal those threats could be....

Daredevil and the Punisher are set to cross paths this spring as season 2 of Daredevil lands on Netflix in March. The latest teaser has promised a darker storyline, which will introduce new threats and complications for Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), specifically the arrival of his “psychotic” ex-girlfriend Elektra (Elodie Yung) and the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who will launch an extremist war on crime. Daredevil won’t be hanging up his horns beyond the second season of the series, as Marvel just announced that the (usually) red-clad superhero will meet the hyper-violent antihero again in the comic book universe....

The Saints Row franchise of games are probably some of the wackiest video games to ever exist, so maybe it’s no huge surprise that a former developer of the series recently admitted his company was once in talks with comedian Dave Chappelle to be a writer on the original game. Although often compared to Grand Theft Auto, the Saints Row games take the idea of being a crime lord up a notch and are so over the top that many consider them a parody of the Grand Theft Auto games....
