Disney announces the cast of Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin includes Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith in lead roles. Walt Disney Pictures has found success in recent years with their live-action adaptations of films from their animated classics vault. With the likes of The Jungle Book, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast finding success both with critics and at the box office, Disney has plans to adapt many of their other animated features to live-action, including Mulan, Dumbo, The Lion King, and Aladdin....

With fallout from Captain America: Civil War still lingering in its atmosphere, the Marvel Cinematic Universe readies for the second film of its third phase. The House of Idea’s next installment gives the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange, his just due the big screen. Despite its own controversy over Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One, Marvel’s most mystical character’s solo shot will explore a lesser-seen area of the MCU. While Marvel’s films are typically known for their work with superheroes, Doctor Strange will be their first examination of Marvel’s esoteric side, including the hidden world of demons and creatures from beyond our daily reality....

The most recent outing in the franchise, however, Transformers: The Last Knight, has stumbled in comparison, earning $517 million in its first four weeks....

After this year’s second team up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, many of Marvel Studios cinematic universe stars will return to kick off Phase 3 in Captain America: Civil War next spring. The upcoming film will pit Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) against former teammate and friend Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans), with many of the other Avengers and their friends choosing sides....

In an episode of the Superteam Podcast this week, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called out Apple for its App Store not being crypto-friendly. Armstrong continued to accuse the tech giant of disrupting the company’s product roadmap as well as banning certain app features. Coinbase, a popular cryptocurrency exchange platform, has over 1.6 million ratings on Apple’s App Store, averaging 4.7 stars. It has over 89 million users worldwide and is the 18th most popular Finance app on the App Store....

The Conan Unconquered trailer suggests a bold sense of scale, with vast armies clashing as hero units like Conan himself tear through waves of enemies. In practice, the game fails to deliver the same sense of gravitas - but it’s still an entertaining title....

After the recent upheaval to find a director to replace Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars Episiode IX, the announcement that J.J. Abrams would return to complete the current trilogy of the Skywalker Saga restored balance to the Force. Abrams, of course, helmed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed $2-billion worldwide and reinvigorated the Star Wars film franchise. Abrams closing out the trilogy he began, while seen by many as a “safe” choice, is like poetry, it rhymes, as George Lucas might say....

DC Universe will bring its slate of original programming, including Titans and Doom Patrol, to San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The streaming subscription service’s presence at the convention comes at a time when there is a lot of speculation about its future, with some in the industry even believing that its demise is close at hand. After the immediate cancellation of Swamp Thing after its first episode, it seems that DC Universe is undoubtedly having some issues....

Zazie Beetz will be back as Domino in Deadpool spin-off, X-Force. This news shouldn’t be too unexpected for fans. Domino hasn’t just been a longtime member of the group X-Force in the comics; she was actually first introduced in the pages of X-Force. Furthermore, Beetz’ version of the character will play a big part in the organization’s formation during Deadpool 2. It’s also been rumored that Beetz is among the best parts of the R-rated sequel, with Deadpool 2 going through reshoots to add more of her character....

The hype leading up to the release of last year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was big, and most expected the game to follow in the footsteps of previous entry, Deus Ex: Human Revolution in becoming a big hit with both fans and critics. While Deus Ex: Mankind Divided did prove itself among critics, garnering an impressive score of 83 on Metacritic, the game failed to deliver as many sales as the previous entry in the Deus Ex franchise....

Recently, Showtime dropped a coke-filled teaser trailer for Black Monday, and now, on the anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash, the premium channel has delivered a full trailer for the upcoming series. Starring Don Cheadle (who also executive produces), Andrew Rannells, Regina Hall, and Paul Scheer, the series takes a quasi-comedic look at the cause of the crash and, as told by directors Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg, the new show looks to have plenty of personality and visual stye....

Chris Pine may have been seen on the set of Wonder Woman 2. Warner Bros. hasn’t had the easiest time getting the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe going, but it is no question that Wonder Woman was the movie everyone needed. Director Patty Jenkins was freed of most continuity by telling the origin of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman during World War I. That decision gave them the opportunity to introduce several new characters, including Chris Pine as Steve Trevor....

Throughout it four-season run on Cinemax (five if you count the Richard Armitage-led season that aired in the States as Strike Back: Origins), Strike Back found a passionate fan base of TV viewers who love watching things go boom. The series was the premium network’s first serious foray into original genre programming – which was a co-production with U.K.’s Sky-1 – and its success helped pave the way for various series that have followed, like Banshee, The Knick, Outcast, and most recently Quarry....

Three years after Warner Bros. and DC rebooted their movie universe with 2013’s Man of Steel, what is now known as the DCEU will expand in a big way this year with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in March and the supervillain team-up film Suicide Squad in August. If the box office projections are accurate, Batman V Superman could be poised to set a new opening weekend record and propel the DC movie continuity brand into the stratosphere....

Hourman, one of the founders of the Justice Society of America, has been cast in DC Universe’s Stargirl, with Lou Ferrigno Jr. joining the TV show as Rex Tyler in a recurring role for the streaming series. Stargirl was announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2018 and it’s one of several live-action superhero series coming to the platform alongside Titans and Swamp Thing. The Stargirl series will be executive produced and run by the character’s creator, Geoff Johns....
